In the years that followed the Civil War, people across the nation paid tribute to fallen soldiers by decorating their gravesides. General John A. Logan issued a proclamation for Decoration Day to be observed annually and nationwide, the first being on May 30, 1868.
In 1971, Congress declared Memorial Day a federal holiday. We at WK&T are thankful for the sacrifices that so many men and women before us have made to defend this country.
