When necessity arises, off to the scrap wood pile I go 🔨🪚🪜

New lumber is not cheap these days.. so we're always saving bits and pieces from various projects as well as keeping our pallet pile stocked!
In a pinch, I can fabricate just about anything with supplies we already have on hand, which is great for timing & budgeting.

There's not much else in this world that tugs on my heart strings like baby lambs do 🥹
They're just the cutest, silliest, most pure form of happiness!

Today's preservation: Butternut Squash

The extreme heat that we've been experiencing has been a shock to the gardens & livestock.
Most of the garden goods are winding down already, which is about a month earlier than usual.. but we're thankful for what we've got!

Since the squash vine was slowly wilting away and the fruit looked ripe enough, it just made sense to harvest them and preserve them all today.. and what a job it was!

Rollo did his part to gather every peel that missed the bucket.. glad to have good quality control around here 😉

Fun fact: Most of the canned pumpkin that you buy from the grocery store is actually butternut squash.. hence the rich orange color. Most common pumpkins have a pale, yellow flesh.

New life on the farm ❤️

This hen has been a great mom. She sat for her full incubation period, and then some.. as another broody hen decided to abandon her eggs half way through.

After hatching her own eggs, she continued sitting to hatch out the fosters as well.

She's gentle, nurturing, and protective.. all the best qualities of a good mama.

Nature is simply amazing!

Our newest (to us) Christmas display..
And I'm in love 😍

I couldn't figure out what to put on this dresser this season, so I set out to the thrift stores and found a few pieces that inspired a Victorian Christmas theme.. and the rest was history
😆😜 (see what I did there?)

I've always swooned over early American antiques and decor.
Christmas time at Tryon Palace or the Biltmore was the feeling I was trying to capture and I'm thrilled with how it turned out.

A little secret picture hack:
You can buy image downloads from etsy and print them at your local print store (Staples) for a fraction of buying new.
Reuse old frames or thrift those as well.

I'm all for joy inducing decor & saving money 🎉
