On June 19th Quilantan text me saying he wanted to take part of the Peter McKinnon 72 Hour Short Film Challenge. I said yes without having a clue what we would make. We bounced around ideas as we finished our day jobs then that night I packed my bags and left for the weekend. I wrote a draft that was less than rough and drew terrible storyboards. The next day we shot it. He shot it, I just hid behind a mask. I believe it came out better than it has every right to be. We had no script, no actors and the clock raced against our own ambitions. BREATHLESS is really just a short collage of emotions we’ve felt during this pandemic. Anxiety, frustration, fear, loneliness and our longing for human interaction. It is a quick experiment. A three day affair. A race against time. A shortness of breath.

Really it all starts and stops with . Black Dawn Films breathes through him. What I have in my head he manages to bring to life and with greater effect. I sat next to him for more than 12 hours as he edited our film, even reshooting halfway through. link in bio.

We have been nominated for the 2nd straight year to the South Texas International Film Festival in the regional short category. A feat we are both proud and exciting for. Last year we were met with a lot of warmth and positive reception by all attendees and fellow filmmakers. We are eager to see all the local & international projects that are to be screened at the festival this year and to meet all the talent behind these projects. I want to thank again for giving us this platform and an audience. Our best is yet to come. See you this September.

An update: we stopped production of our project Mis Hijos in late December 2018. Two weeks later we embarked on a much shorter endeavor, INTERVERSAL. A short script I had written almost an entire year before. I admit that it took me some days to grasp an understanding of the script as I had forgotten what I was trying to say when I wrote it. That disconnect allowed me to read myself as a writer with a stranger’s eyes. Instead of rewriting it, as tempted as I was, I challenged myself to finish what my younger self had started. I decided not to obstruct with the story & instead go at it semi blindly. Even after production, during editing, I was still figuring out where things went and what they meant. If you ask me what the short is I can only give you a guess and to me that is its charm. It became an experimental piece where it gives more questions than answers - at least to its author anyhow.
