QBs Arch Manning And Marcel Reed Set For High-Stakes Showdown In Texas-Texas A&M Rivalry Game

By JIM VERTUNO and KRISTIE RIEKEN Associated Press

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas’ Arch Manning started the season as a top Heisman Trophy contender. Texas A&M’s Marcel Reed is finishing it as one.

The two quarterbacks duel Friday night when the No. 16 Longhorns and No. 3 Aggies clash in the 120th meeting in the rivalry. Texas A&M (11-0, 7-0) is trying to secure its first appearance in the Southeastern Conference championship game, while Texas (8-3, 5-2) could boost its faint hopes of reaching the College Football Playoff.

For Manning, the showcase matchup is a chance to rally Texas’ postseason chances, and show how far he’s come in a roller-coaster season that saw him roasted by critics as an over-hyped bust.

For Reed, a victory to cap one of A&M’s best regular seasons in school history could propel him from surging late-season Heisman hopeful into one of the favorites, and into Aggie lore.

Hidalgo, Cameron Counties Get F On March Of Dimes Preterm Birth Report

Two Rio Grande Valley counties are getting a failing grade for their efforts to prevent premature births.

The March of Dimes recently released its 2025 Preterm Birth Report Card. Hidalgo County’s preterm birth rate was 13-point-three percent, while Cameron County’s was 12-point-seven percent.

While giving both counties an F, the March of Dimes said preterm birth rates in both areas have improved since the organization’s last report.

Charges Upgraded For Suspect In National Guard Shooting

(Washington, DC) -- The suspect in the shooting of two National Guard members on the streets of Washington, D.C. is now facing a murder charge.

U.S. Attorney for D.C. Jeanine Pirro announced the upgraded charge this morning following the death of Sarah Beckstrom. The other guardsman shot in the incident, Andrew Wolfe, remains hospitalized in critical condition.

The suspect, an Afghan national who worked with the U.S. to fight the Taliban, is still hospitalized as well. Pirro said the guard members were sworn in less than 24 hours before the Wednesday shooting.

Prescott’s Cowboys Overcome Mahomes’ Fourth Down Magic In 31-28 Thanksgiving Win Over Chiefs

By SCHUYLER DIXON AP Pro Football Writer

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Dak Prescott threw for two touchdowns, Malik Davis sprinted 43 yards for a score and the Dallas Cowboys overcame two fourth down TD throws from Patrick Mahomes in a 31-28 Thanksgiving victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on Thursday.

CeeDee Lamb scored the first Dallas touchdown and finished with 112 yards on seven catches four days after drops plagued the star receiver in a victory over defending Super Bowl champion Philadelphia.

The Cowboys (6-5-1) have won three straight, knocking off both of last season’s Super Bowl teams in the past five days, and they dropped the defending AFC champion Chiefs (6-6) back to .500 in a matchup of playoff-chasing teams.

Mahomes had four touchdown passes in his first professional game at the home of the Cowboys, where he played three times for Texas Tech not far from his East Texas roots.

Travis Kelce caught Mahomes’ first fourth down TD toss on a 2-yarder, and Rashee Rice’s second scoring catch came on fourth-and-3 early in the fourth quarter.

Kansas City was down 10 when Mahomes was almost tripped in the backfield by Quinnen Williams but kept his feet and found Xavier Worthy wide open down the field for 42 yards, setting up a 10-yard scoring toss to Hollywood Brown with 3:27 remaining.

Prescott and company didn’t give Mahomes another chance.

After two pass interference penalties gave Dallas first downs, Prescott hit George Pickens for 13 yards and a clinching first down at the two-minute warning. Prescott kneeled three times after that.

Rice had eight catches for 92 yards, his first score coming on a 27-yard catch-and-run on the sideline two plays after Prescott was intercepted by Jaylen Watson on the first Dallas possession.

Davis had just three carries, but his long run gave Dallas its first lead at 17-14 late in the second quarter.

National Guard Member Dead Following Shooting Near White House

President Trump says one of the National Guard members shot on the streets of Washington, D.C. has died. Trump said on Thursday that Sarah Beckstrom died from her injuries, calling her “outstanding in every single way.”

The other soldier shot, Andrew Wolfe, remains critical, with Trump saying he was “fighting for his life.” The suspect in the “ambush-style” attack, an Afghan national who worked with the U.S. to fight the Taliban, remains hospitalized as well.

U.S. Attorney for the District of Columbia Jeanine Pirro said the guard members were sworn in less than 24 hours before the Wednesday shooting.

Most of us have plenty of leftovers after Thanksgiving, so the big question is how to keep them safe and fresh.

Alexis Supan, a registered dietician at the Cleveland Clinic says there are a few basic guidelines to follow, including only keeping food out for a maximum of two hours before refrigerating. But Supan says it’s important to note that refrigerated food has a lifespan.

Leftovers are safe to eat, she says, for three to four days. But, if you think you’ll go longer than that to finish them off, the best bet is “to throw them in the freezer to keep them safe.”

Supan says freezer food can keep indefinitely, although texture and flavor may change after four months.
