Kunes sometimes get a bad rap for not being a good pig for meat. Iā€™m here to tell you it ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR GOAL! For me, Kunes are the perfect pig: 1. They are easy for me to handle 2. I can rotationally graze them 3. I get A LOT of lard with some awesome meat. I also can process them myself which is a win!

If you want all the cuts with not a lot of fat, then a traditional meat pig would be great for you!

Itā€™s pig processing day. Itā€™s not a fun day, but itā€™s a necessary day. This day Porkpie will have 1 bad day and provide meat for my household.

It will take a total of 3 days to get her completely processed. 1 day for dispatching, 1 day for butchering, and one day for grinding meat/rendering lard.

Iā€™m impressed with these American Bresse chickens so far. They are only 10 weeks and are already just as big as my 13-14 week old chickens that Iā€™m using for meatšŸ¤©. I canā€™t wait to see how they are when I process the roosters in about 4 weeks.

With it being Satanā€™s armpit outside (heat index of 115), wallows are a MUST! They donā€™t sweat like humans. It results in mud helmet head pigs. I love those mug helmet headsšŸ¤£

šŸ„› whey what is left over from cheese making and straining your fresh yogurt. It is highly nutritious!

šŸ„› You can use it to make bread. Just replace the milk with your whey. It will give your bread a sourdough like flavor without having to do sourdough starter.

šŸ„› My favorite thing to do is give it to my pigs! They LOVE getting a cool snack in the heat. It gives them tons of nutrition. While for me is helpful light now with a pregnant pig and one need getting ready for processing.
