The first time we lit after a summer rainstorm… the bugs left us alone. No bites. No buzzing. Just golden-hour peace.

It’s the rare natural repellent that actually delivers. Long burn time. Clean ingredients. Smells like a forest spa.

And—bonus—it’s totally pet-friendly and low-waste.

If you’ve tried everything else, try the one that works.

🛶 Field tested. Camp approved.

It’s the second litter season for squirrels—nests are full of newborns from August–October. 🐿️

Hold off on major tree work until November to keep families intact. One heavy trim now could mean orphaned babies.

Our Pawprints on the Trail guide covers:
✔️ Vet visits + trail regulations
✔️ Grooming + car-prep essentials
✔️ Safety, visibility + hydration gear
✔️ Training cues for stress-free campsites
✔️ Leave No Trace tips for pets

Skip the “treats.”

Deer have specialized stomachs that can’t handle sudden changes. Corn, bread, or other high-starch foods can cause a fatal condition called rumen acidosis, especially in winter.

Help them by leaving natural browse in place.

Paw & Order: B.A.R.K. Ranger Edition 🐾

Your dog might not know what a merit badge is, but they know when you’re proud of them. And yes — the National Park Service actually has a program where pups can earn the title of B.A.R.K. Ranger.

The four golden rules of the trail:
✔️ Bag your pet’s waste
✔️ Always leash your pet (6 ft max)
✔️ Respect wildlife
✔️ Know where you can go

Some parks even have a certificate or keepsake tag for your pup when they take the pledge (prepare to tear up at the “swearing in” ceremony).

Live in the Southeast? Here’s your chance to join a regional science project right from your own backyard.

The Great Southeast Pollinator Census is happening August 23–24! All you need to do is pick a blooming plant, watch it for 15 minutes, and count the bees, butterflies, wasps, flies, and other insects that visit. Your observations become part of a larger project tracking pollinator health across the region.

Think of it as a field trip without leaving home!etter yet, grab a neighbor, your family, or a group of friends and make it an outdoor adventure together.

This is a fun way to slow down, enjoy your blooms, and give back to nature at the same time.

Campfire Chat: Two squirrels, one heavy pack, and a month for our pets 🐿

Not every trail feels light. Some seasons weigh us down in ways we can’t always share.

This month’s Campfire Chat is about:
• The comfort pets bring
• What two baby squirrels taught me about purpose
• Finding lighter stretches of trail, even in hard seasons

It’s also the kickoff to Pet Month at Field Trip — a full month of stories, guides, and gear for the animals who share our lives and adventures.
