WEST PARK STREET FAIR – How many of you remember the West Park Street Fair? And just how many couples actually did this community event bring together?

To look back at the Stowe Township VFD event, click the link below for MORE PICTURES and a story about a Township of Robinson couple who met there and just celebrated 25 years:

By Elizabeth Perry For more than 80 years, the annual week-long West Park Town Fair in Stowe was a huge event for families and young people in the area. Like a lot of couples, Robinson residents Mario and Carla Ulizzi met at the fair. “I know exactly where she was standing, what she was wearing,.....

EDITOR'S NOTE – I mentored so many writers and would-be writers over the six years that were Gazette 2.0. To be honest, I can't remember many of their names. Yet, I'll never forget Jamie Wiggan. His dry sense of humor and my warped sense of humor got along famously.

During his first trip to the Press Club of Western Pennsylvania's Golden Quill Awards, Journalist Sally Wiggin was honored for her contributions to the craft. That's the day Jamie became Sally's long-lost cousin thrice removed. (That i in Sally's last name... it's either a typo or how they spell it in the States.)

This young man should be a journalist. Hell, he put up with me for four years so he should be set for life! I can't wait to see where his experiences in the press corps take him.

With respect,

Sonja Reis
Editor & Publisher of the now-defunct Gazette 2.0

PS - The link below is Jamie's farewell piece. Notice the jab about my handwriting.

By Jamie Wiggan I don’t suppose my expectations were high when I saw that ad for a part time staff writer at a strange newspaper I’d never heard of in McKees Rocks. But I gave it a shot anyway. I was 25, recently graduated, and had just received my authorization to work in the U.S. Apart from a ...

75 SKATERIFIC YEARS -- Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Why not try rollerskating? There's only one rink left in Allegheny County and it's here in the West on Neville Island.
--> Neville Roller Drome, Inc.

By Elizabeth Perry The Neville Roller Drome, the last roller rink in Allegheny County, is celebrating its 75th year of giving people who like to skate a safe, fun environment to be themselves. Over the past seven decades, the Neville Island staple has only had two owners, the Deramo brothers –Tony...

DAY OF THE DEAD -- Last night we said farewell to staff members past and present, the crew at Center for Media Innovation at Point Park University, the Pittsburgh Media Partnership and Gazette 2.0 readers, too.

It was sad but a fulfilling celebration as we end 131 years of having a newspaper of record in McKees Rocks. Six of those years were because of the hard work of everyone at Gazette 2.0.

CRAFTON HERITAGE -- As this heart warming piece shows, a litle kindness goes a long way...

Shorty, a former slave who lived to be about 100, worked odd jobs throughout Crafton. Sugar Lump, a school girl who attended St. Philips, had a tough childhood.

She says she'll always remember the kindness shown to her by Shorty.

By Crystal Boehm It doesn’t take fame or fortune to be remembered. On Nov. 10 the Crafton Shade Tree Commission will dedicate a pin oak in Crafton Park to Walter “Shorty” Fulton, a man whose kindness helped a woman named Ellen Hughes survive a painful childhood. Hughes, now living in Nebraska,...
