We have been seeing comments on social media questioning whether the Yamhill County Alerts app through Everbridge is functioning properly. The general complaint is that folks who have signed up are not receiving any notifications. We wanted to point out that this application is designed to notify participants who are directly affected by events around them, not every person who has signed up.

Much like the Amber Alert System, Yamhill County Alerts is designed so it does not send multiple messages of different priority levels as to not condition users to seeing alerts coming across on a constant basis. This would lessen the effectiveness of this tool and run the risk of people disregarding messages as they appear.

Rest assured, if you sign up for the application, and something in your area needs to be relayed to you, you will receive an alert.

McMinnville Youth Football

Update from McMinnville Youth Football.

McMinnville Youth Football Families,

2020 has been an interesting and disappointing year to say the least. In this ever-changing environment, we regretfully must inform you there will not be a youth tackle football season this year. Due to the COVID-19 Pandemic the OSAA, the governing body for all high school sports in the state, has adopted a new sports calendar pushing back all fall sports, including football, to the early spring of 2021. This is consistent with many public schools in the state deciding to move classes online in some form for the fall.
With this decision our league, Tualatin Valley Youth Football League (TVYFL), has also canceled the fall youth tackle football season. There may be opportunities in the Spring season to get our youth back on the football field in some form, however we are not able to guarantee that at this time. We will follow the state and OSAA guidelines for athletics to keep kids and parents safe and do our part to try to control the spread of COVID-19.
This was not an easy decision, but with ever-changing State and local health guidelines, there are too many unknowns currently to proceed with a fall season. We are disappointed our young athletes are losing out on the opportunity to be on a team this fall, learning life lessons while being physically active. McMinnville Youth Football is dedicated to the physical and mental development and well-being of our youth athletes in a safe environment.
We hope you understand the reasoning behind our decision. We will continue to update the webpage and social media pages as things change. Stay healthy and safe this year.
