Shelby ended a spectacular year of growth and excitement with a tough 6-5 loss to #5-ranked Morley-Stanwood in the regional semifinals.

The Tigers made some unfortunate fielding miscues late in the game that helped the Mohawks escape, though Emma Stovall and Jayna Burmeister each had big hits - Stovall's a two-run double in the third inning and Burmeister's a two-run homer in the seventh.

Shelby ended the season 27-12 and isn't losing anyone to graduation, creating optimism this is just the beginning for the up-and-coming Tigers' program.

Shelby ended a historic season - the team's first regional win since 2012 and first conference title since 2010 - Saturday with a 12-2 loss to Kalamazoo Christian in the regional final.

The score did not indicate how close the game was; the Comets scored 8 times in the final inning to break open a close battle.

Leighton Belasco went 3-for-3, and Chase Simon and Cam Smith each drove in a run in coach Brian Wright's final game after 45 seasons at the helm.
