Before you scroll past Sudan again, imagine this:
your child is running for their life…
and when the dust settles, they are alone in a camp,
surrounded by strangers.

Since war erupted in Sudan in 2023, over 30 million people now need humanitarian aid.
Almost 15 million of them are children
one of the biggest child crises on Earth.

Sudan is now the world’s largest internal displacement crisis,
with more than 9 million people forced from their homes inside the country alone.

In El Fasher, a city besieged for more than 500 days,
survivors describe mass killings, r**e, and homes burned
in attacks that rights groups say echo the Darfur genocide years ago.

In October, gunmen stormed the last functioning maternity hospital there
and killed around 460 patients and family members inside.
A place meant for new life became a crime scene.

More than 100,000 people have fled El Fasher in just weeks,
and aid workers have registered hundreds of children arriving terrified and alone,
separated from parents who were killed, detained, or lost on the way.

Hospitals, clinics, and even aid offices have been bombed, looted, or shut down.
Nearly 1,000 people have been killed this year while simply seeking health care.

And while Sudan bleeds,
the UN’s humanitarian plan is funded at only about 25%.
Three quarters of what’s needed… is missing.

This is not just “another conflict.”
These are families. These are children.

If you’re seeing this, don’t let Sudan disappear from your timeline.
Share this video. Say the names: Sudan, Darfur, El Fasher.
Support organizations on the ground – UNICEF, MSF, IRC, WFP and others
whatever you can give, even if it’s just your voice.

Because silence is a choice.
And tonight, Sudan needs witnesses.

• Healthy Babies Project –
• Pediatric Therapy Studio –
• Danbar –

We celebrate a woman whose voice has carried truth through storms, whose courage stood tall when silence felt easier, and whose pen lit a path for those pushed to the margins.

We celebrate Fatma Sulaiman Gazali, journalist, political analyst, human rights defender, trainer, and one of Sudan’s most unwavering storytellers.

Fatma began her journey in El-Obeid, North Kordofan, a young girl drawn to the world of words long before she ever held a press card. She grew up believing that stories can heal and that truth, even when dangerous, must still be spoken.

She entered the newsroom early, starting at Al-Dustoor newspaper, covering education and political life with sharp insight and a determination that never faded. Soon, she became a familiar name across Sudan’s most influential papers, Alwatan, Al-Tayar, Aljareeda, Alhayat Alseyaseya, not only as a reporter, but as a political editor, a columnist, and a woman trusted to lead.

Her daily column “Bila Inhinā’ / Without Bowing” became her signature, a space where she wrote boldly, honestly, and without fear. Her stance came with a cost: harassment, arrests, interrogations, blocked promotions, and even a prison sentence under the Bashir regime. But Fatma refused to step back. She kept writing because she knew that silence is the soil where injustice grows.

She was among the very first Sudanese women journalists to enter Darfur’s war zones and displacement camps, documenting what others tried to bury, the suffering, the disappearances, the shattered families, and the weight of genocide. Her reporting was not just journalism; it was witness, memory, and moral duty.

Fatma’s work reached beyond Sudan. She became a respected political analyst on BBC Arabic, Alhadath, Alarabiya, Sky News, Alaraby AlJadeed, Asharq, France 24, and other global platforms, offering clarity in moments of chaos and lifting Sudan’s stories to an international stage.

Her academic path is rooted in purpose:
• Master’s in Peace & Conflict Resolution – University of Juba
• Postgraduate Diploma in Gender & Governance – Ahfad University
• Bachelor’s in Journalism & Publishing – Holy Quran Islamic University
• Professional Journalism License – Sudanese Press Council

In the United States, she continued her mission, serving communities through Healthy Babies Project in Washington DC, working with Pediatric Therapy Studio in Virginia, supporting children at Danbar in Philadelphia, and sharing her experience with Sudanese communities and rights organizations nationwide.

She is also a researcher with the Washington Institute for New Sudan, committed to peace, democratic change, and documenting the struggles of her homeland.

Her international engagements include covering peace negotiations in Doha, humanitarian discussions in Geneva, conferences in Turkey, Germany, Kenya, Libya, Ethiopia, and speaking on programs about war, media, and women, including BBC’s Duniyāna.

Through all of this, Fatma remained the same woman she was at the start:
Grounded.
Fearless.
Guided by truth.

Today, we honor her journey, not only the titles she earned, but the weight she carried, the stories she protected, and the communities she continues to serve.

Fatma Gazali, your courage has shaped the narrative of a nation.
Your voice made space for others to breathe.
Your legacy lives in every young woman who now dares to speak.

Tonight, we celebrate you, fully, proudly, and with deep gratitude.
