Trump orders nationwide review of green card holders, including Haiti and Cuba, and plans “pause” on third world migration.

In a Thanksgiving post, he announced plans to halt migration and end federal benefits for noncitizens following the killing of a National Guard member in Washington, D.C. He linked the attack to broader immigration concerns: “I will permanently pause migration from all Third World Countries to allow the U.S. system to fully recover, terminate all of the millions of Biden illegal admissions, including those signed by Sleepy Joe Biden’s Autopen, and remove anyone who is not a net asset to the United States.”

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security has officially ended Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Haiti, a decision that could affect tens of thousands of Haitians living legally in the United States.

According to the Federal Register notice, DHS concluded that Haiti no longer meets the requirements for TPS. The designation ends on February 3, 2026, giving current beneficiaries a limited window to secure another legal status or prepare to depart.

The announcement has raised concern throughout South Florida’s Haitian community. For many families, TPS has been a vital protection amid Haiti’s ongoing instability, political turmoil and humanitarian crisis.

DHS has outlined a “self-departure” process that includes a free flight and a $1,000 exit stipend, a policy already drawing criticism from immigration advocates and community leaders.

Island TV will continue following the legal, community and political developments surrounding this decision.

Rising global food prices continue to pressure Caribbean households, pushing the region to rethink its long-term food security. CARICOM nations are expanding homegrown solutions with new policies, modern farming technology, and stronger regional supply chains aimed at reducing import dependence.

As the “25 by 2025” campaign accelerates, leaders say the goal is not only economic relief but greater resilience across the islands.

Two Texas men have been indicted after prosecutors say they spent nearly a year plotting to overthrow Haiti’s Gonâve Island, home to up to 100,000 people. Court documents accuse them of planning to recruit homeless individuals in Washington, D.C. as mercenaries, buy a sailboat and weapons, kill the island’s men, and enslave the women and children. Investigators say one of the men even enrolled in fire academy training to prepare for the attack. They now face federal charges that could lead to decades or even life in prison.
