The Trump administration is preparing to revoke up to 200,000 U.S. visas held by foreign nationals, a move that could become the largest mass visa revocation in U.S. history.

The review could affect business, tourist and work visa holders, as the State Department works with the Department of Homeland Security to identify individuals whose visas may be subject to cancellation. Officials say the process would take place on a rolling basis and have not confirmed that all 200,000 visas under review will ultimately be revoked.

The effort marks a significant expansion of the administration’s immigration enforcement strategy and could face legal challenges as implementation moves forward.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Byron Donalds has selected Florida state Sen. Bryan Avila as his running mate, announcing the decision Tuesday at Miami’s Freedom Tower.

Avila, 42, represents parts of Miami and Hialeah and has led Donalds’ “Latinos for Byron” campaign since May. He also serves as a captain in the Florida Army National Guard.

Donalds will face Democratic gubernatorial nominee David Jolly in the November general election. Jolly previously selected former U.S. Rep. Gwen Graham as his running mate.

If elected, Donalds would become Florida’s first Black governor.

Republican gubernatorial nominee Byron Donalds has selected state Sen. Bryan Avila as his running mate. He made the announcement this morning at Miami’s iconic Freedom Tower.

42-year-old Avila represents the 111th District, comprised of parts of Miami and Hialeah, and has led Donald’s’ “Latinos for Byron” campaign since May. He also serves as a captain in the Florida Army National Guard.

The choice highlights the importance of Miami-Dade County, which has shifted Republican in recent election cycles under Gov. Ron DeSantis and President Donald Trump. The county now has about 50,000 more registered Republicans than Democrats, though Democratic turnout exceeded Republican turnout by more than 22,000 votes in the Aug. 18 primary. About one-third of Miami-Dade voters are registered independents.

Donalds won the Republican nomination with about 48 percent of the vote. Jolly won 61 percent on the Democratic side and previously selected former Rep. Gwen Graham, the daughter of former Sen. and Gov. Bob Graham, as his running mate.

If elected, Donalds would become Florida’s first Black governor.

A federal judge in New York has struck down a Trump administration policy that suspended immigrant visa processing for applicants from 75 countries, including Haiti, Cuba and several other Caribbean nations.

U.S. District Judge Jeannette Vargas ruled that Secretary of State Marco Rubio exceeded his authority by imposing the policy, finding that it violated the Immigration and Nationality Act by requiring visas to be refused to otherwise eligible applicants without a legal basis.

The ruling sets aside the policy, marking a significant development for applicants from countries affected by the restrictions.

A deadly gang attack in Kenscoff, Haiti, has left residents dead, homes burned and families fleeing the mountainous community southeast of Port-au-Prince.

Kenscoff Mayor Jean Massillon attributed the attack to members of the Viv Ansanm gang coalition. Authorities have not confirmed an official death toll as access to affected areas remains difficult. One resident told The Associated Press that 14 members of his family were killed and others remain missing.

The latest violence comes as Haiti continues to face a deepening security and displacement crisis.

Tensions over beach access are escalating in Portland, Jamaica, where residents of Drapers are in a standoff with private landowners surrounding Sancobay Beach.

Residents say they fear losing access to another beach in the parish, adding to a broader national debate over Jamaicans’ ability to access the country’s coastline. The dispute comes as beach access remains a closely watched public issue across the island.

Drapers is a coastal community near Port Antonio in northeastern Jamaica. Government beach records identify Drapers Beach as a public bathing beach with unrestricted hours and no entrance fee.

Thousands of residents in Gary, Indiana, are entering a second week without power after a powerful Aug. 11 storm brought winds of up to 99 mph across Northwest Indiana, toppling trees, power lines and utility poles.

Gary, a predominantly Black city where nearly 80% of residents are Black, has been among the communities hardest hit by the prolonged outage. Schools remain closed, while residents have been forced to discard spoiled food, search for open businesses and rely on community organizations for meals and essential supplies.

NIPSCO says the storm caused the largest outage event in the utility’s history, initially knocking out power to more than 60% of its customers. Crews are rebuilding portions of the electrical system, with full restoration in Gary not expected until Tuesday, Aug. 25, meaning some residents could spend nearly two weeks without electricity.

More than 160 Haitians were deported from the United States to Cap-Haïtien on Thursday, marking the first major deportation flight since Temporary Protected Status ended for hundreds of thousands of Haitians.

Haitian officials said the group included former TPS holders, people who had served prison sentences and others in removal proceedings. Some of those deported were born outside Haiti.

The flight was the eighth U.S. deportation flight to Haiti this year. The U.S. now plans to increase deportations to two flights a week, totaling approximately 250 Haitians weekly, as Haiti continues to face widespread gang violence and a humanitarian crisis.
