The North Jetty and South Jetty at Sebastian Inlet will be closed to the public on Tuesday, April 21 and Wednesday, April 22 for routine annual structural inspections.

The inspections are necessary to keep these structures safe for everyone. The jetties will reopen on Thursday, April 23.

Dredging operations remain underway at Sebastian Inlet, leaving portions of the north shoreline a muddy mess for surf fishing. The photo was sent to me from Wayne Landry, known as the Snookman.

The week ahead is shaping up to be another round of windy and wavy conditions for fishing. Water temperatures have warmed slightly and are fluctuating between 71 and 73 degrees, with seas forecast at 4 to 5 feet and south-southeast winds in the 10- to 20-mph range. Those winds are expected to stir up the water, making it dirtier and increasing the arrival of sargassum seaweed, which is already showing up heavily in the area.

One bright spot for pier anglers: The T-dock at the inlet is now open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, with no more closures in effect.

I saw some solid fishing action earlier in the week before the winds picked up, particularly Monday through Wednesday on the last of the incoming tide.

The water should clear up once the winds calm down. A high surf advisory is in effect through Monday, with gusty winds expected all week. It’s not an ideal week for fishing. There's been some snook, redfish, and sheepshead catches, but not like it should be.

I haven’t published any videos of my reports because of the poor conditions, but I remain optimistic that fishing will improve soon.

Fishing is picking up at Sebastian Inlet as the water temperature begins to warm up. Spring is right around the corner, and I’ll be publishing my Spring 2026 fishing report in about 10 days.

I spoke with Wayne Landry, the Snookman, and he said the incoming tides at the North Jetty have been good, with anglers catching black drum on live and dead shrimp. Snook are hitting shrimp and pinfish, but most have been too big to keep. An angler visiting from Port St. Lucie said he caught some catch and release Redfish are biting on live baits.

Sheepshead are biting on fiddler crabs and live sand fleas by the bridge. Some whiting are being caught on dead shrimp.

The South Jetty has cleaned up since the cold snaps, with blues and jacks caught on spoons and cut bait. Some black drum and sheepshead are being caught on dead shrimp on the outgoing tide. Some snook, seatrout, and a few flounder are being caught as well. Live shrimp and finger mullet are prime baits.

I’ll be checking out the surf and T-dock tomorrow. 🎣

It's been a sluggish month for anglers at Sebastian Inlet, with catches mostly limited to bluefish, jacks and a few scattered species, according to the anglers I've been talking to, including my friend "The Snook" (Wayne Landry).

The slowdown has kept me from filming my regular video fishing reports. A few snook are biting but are undersized, and the larger ones are staying away until the water temperature rises. It's only 68 degrees right now, and we need it to warm up to 75 before we see any good snook at the inlet. It's very windy at the inlet too, not ideal for casting lines.

👉 There is one cold spell coming up this week, but NO FREEZING temperatures are expected at the inlet.

Anglers at the north and south jetties tell me bluefish and jacks are hitting a variety of baits, spoons and jigs. Some black drum are around, while pompano and sheepshead are active at the south jetty, particularly on live sand fleas and goofy jigs.

My prediction: Give it 2 to 3 weeks for the water temperatures to rise before we see any big snook. They will be ready to feed by then and will move to the inlet and beaches. It's just not happening right now.

One angler told me he drove from Orlando and spent an entire day on catching a single small Spanish mackerel. Other people are sharing their frustrations.

I went out there early one morning last week and there were no fishermen at the south jetty, and only a few at the north. Like I said, give it time for the waters to warm up.

Surf fishing along the beaches is dominated by unwanted catches like catfish, small sharks and stingrays. Those darn catfish are annoying!

I'll be back out there this week and I plan to record by next fishing video by early next week. Hang in there!

Anglers are telling me they are coming up empty-handed at Sebastian Inlet.

👉 Here’s an update:

Cold and murky waters continue to stifle activity. The water temperature at the inlet is 60 degrees — below the 65-degree threshold needed to lure in seasonal species.

To make matters worse, strong north-northwest winds have churned up surf and sand, turning the water dirtier and rougher, further discouraging fish from biting.

Amid the slowdown, some black drum and sheepshead have been caught on shrimp and clams along the jetties, while small bluefish have taken to silver spoons, gotcha lures, and various baits.

However, snook remain absent, driven off by the frigid conditions.

The surf on both sides of the inlet has been blown out and uninviting, yielding mostly catfish and stingrays.

Despite crowds of hopeful anglers, the overall haul has been minimal.

Forecasters predict a return to normal weather patterns this week, but it’s going to take another week for fishing conditions to improve.

I’ll have my full fishing report next week.

This week, freezing temperatures have led to fish kills in the Indian River Lagoon near Sebastian Inlet. So far, it’s mostly baitfish with a few snook affected.

I’ve seen much worse over the years, so this isn’t catastrophic. But it’s still a concern. Stay tuned for more details in my fishing report this week.

☀️ On a brighter note, temps will start warming up next week, with highs reaching around 80°F by Friday, February 13th.

Just a quick update, anglers! I’ll be dropping my latest fishing video by Tuesday. 🎥 In the meantime, here’s the scoop on the local action…

👉 On the North Jetty, things are firing up on the high incoming tide, with black drum striking hard and fast. Snook are on fire in the early morning hours toward the end of the outgoing tide near the tip—anglers have hauled in some beauties using live shrimp.

👉 The South Jetty mirrors the North, but sheepshead are stealing the show with plenty of bites.

I’ll hit the inlet again this week for more intel and deliver that full video breakdown on conditions by Tuesday—stay tuned! 📺
