It's been a sluggish month for anglers at Sebastian Inlet, with catches mostly limited to bluefish, jacks and a few scattered species, according to the anglers I've been talking to, including my friend "The Snook" (Wayne Landry).
The slowdown has kept me from filming my regular video fishing reports. A few snook are biting but are undersized, and the larger ones are staying away until the water temperature rises. It's only 68 degrees right now, and we need it to warm up to 75 before we see any good snook at the inlet. It's very windy at the inlet too, not ideal for casting lines.
👉 There is one cold spell coming up this week, but NO FREEZING temperatures are expected at the inlet.
Anglers at the north and south jetties tell me bluefish and jacks are hitting a variety of baits, spoons and jigs. Some black drum are around, while pompano and sheepshead are active at the south jetty, particularly on live sand fleas and goofy jigs.
My prediction: Give it 2 to 3 weeks for the water temperatures to rise before we see any big snook. They will be ready to feed by then and will move to the inlet and beaches. It's just not happening right now.
One angler told me he drove from Orlando and spent an entire day on catching a single small Spanish mackerel. Other people are sharing their frustrations.
I went out there early one morning last week and there were no fishermen at the south jetty, and only a few at the north. Like I said, give it time for the waters to warm up.
Surf fishing along the beaches is dominated by unwanted catches like catfish, small sharks and stingrays. Those darn catfish are annoying!
I'll be back out there this week and I plan to record by next fishing video by early next week. Hang in there!
