The August 24, 2026 issue of BBN is now available in your mailbox, online and around town.
Community Bank of the South sees opportunity to grow in the Melbourne area and has opened a loan production office while searching for a permanent branch location. The 26–year–old bank, locally owned, has branches in Cocoa and Rockledge, and Merritt Island. The Community Bank of the South team includes: Bill Taylor, Charlie McCoach, Pedro Guirola, and Kelly Guldi.
Space Coast Jazz Society has been keeping alive and promoting a unique genre of music since 1986. The organization puts on jazz concerts from September through May with performers who have impressive musical resumes and have played alongside some of the greats in the field. Gigi Gordon, and Bobbie Vance are board members of the Space Coast Jazz Society.
Lesli Smith, is the new vice president of resource development at Space Coast Habitat for Humanity. She has nearly 30 years of experience raising funds for nonprofits, in Florida and Texas. Anna Terry is Space Coast Habitat’s executive director. Under her seven–year leadership of the organization, Space Coast Habitat has closed 37 homes.

Joyal Homes recently broke ground on its newest model at Aripeka, a high–end single–family home development in Viera. Joyal Homes constructs custom designed homes throughout Brevard County. The model is the ‘St. Paul,’ named after Joyal Homes’ founder Paul Joyal. The team includes Todd Pokrywa, Tom Hull, Toni Mays, and Jeff Joseph.
Suril Lakhani and Stuti Lakhani, a husband–and–wife business team, have owned Print Depot in Palm Bay for 10 years. They have consistently made equipment upgrades to keep their shop on the cutting edge of the printing industry. Soon, a flatbed UV hybrid printer will be arriving at their business on Palm Bay Road. Canaveral Council of Technical Societies will present its third annual ‘Space Visions Symposium’ on Sept. 11 at the Space Coast Health
Foundation Center for Collaboration in Rockledge. The event is open to the public and will feature experts addressing a range of topics,
including in–space construction, space infrastructure, and logistics for sustained operations. From left: Jennifer Kennedy–Ness, CEO,

Thompson Wealth Management, an affiliate of Raymond James has been a big success and now manages more than $1.2 billion of client assets. The practice, founded by CFP Mark Thompson, has customers around the nation. Thompson Wealth Management works with individuals, families, and businesses The team includes: CFP Alex Thompson, Mark Thompson, and CFP Angelo Oddo.
Peg Girard she is excited about The Melbourne Civic Theatre’s new season of shows. Melbourne Civic Theatre has been entertaining and educating theatergoers for decades. It’s the ‘longest running arts organization’ in Brevard County, having operated under various names over the decades. Girard is managing and artistic director for the theatre.
Eckerd Connects, a nonprofit, was established in 1968 and operates nationwide. In Brevard County, Talia Bryant is director of family services and Leigh McElroy is director of prevention services. Eckerd Connects has offices in Rockledge and Melbourne. The organization serves 2,800 youth per school year and 200 families per year through its housing and homeless prevention program.

The August 3, 2026 issue of BBN is now available in your mailbox, online and around town. Chris Taub, general manager of Compass by Margaritaville, a 150–room hotel under construction in Cape Canaveral and Corey Runte, vice president of preconstruction at Certified General Contractors celebrated the groundbreaking of the new 150 room hotel to be constructed adjacent Port Canaveral. The hotel will feature a roof top venue for viewing launches from Kennedy Space Center.
The Greater Palm Bay Chamber will present its annual Space Coast Symposium & Expo Aug. 21 at the Radisson Resort at the Port. Topics will include ‘Advanced Manufacturing: Powering the Space Coast Economy.’ Experts from around the state will be making presentations. There will be four panels led by moderators. Junior Achievement of the Space Coast will host its Stock Market Challenge Nov. 19. High school students work in small groups to trade and produce the best–performing portfolio. The students are hands–on learning strategic decision making, risk management and teamwork. The July 27, 2026 issue of BBN is now available online, in your mailbox and around town. The Economic Development Commission of Florida’s Space Coast is working with its partners on the new ‘Tomorrow Launches Here’ brand–identity campaign, an initiative designed to promote and distinguish the area with its unique assets. The team includes John Thomas, Michele Murrell, Jimmy Lane, Lindsey Ruschak, Robert Goltz, Lynda Weatherman, Cory Skeates, Anne Conroy–Baiter, Victoria Jones, and Rachel Rutledge.
Thomas LaFlore of CareerSource Brevard Flagler Volusia, connects local employers with skilled talent and helps residents find jobs or career training. LaFlore said the state is making a big push emphasizing the opportunities that apprenticeship programs provide. In 2027, LaFlore will mark his 30th year in workforce development.
321Empowerment, which strives to inspire, educate and empower students in grades nine through 12, will conduct its ‘Emotional Intelligence’ event Aug. 8 at EFSC in Melbourne. The program is for students in grades nine through 12. 321Empowerment is overseen by a board of directors who are educators, entrepreneurs, and former athletes. New board members include Kaley Wilson, Ursula Norris, Dawn Bradford, Dr. Rosy Collins, and Sara Murano.
