Read the December 29, 2025 issue of BBN, now available online and around town. Health First Philanthropy uplifts organizations throughout the county. Chris Kern is vice president of philanthropy at Health First, Inc. The foundation funded the only pediatric emergency department in Brevard, located at Holmes Regional Medical Center.

The Children’s Hunger Project and the Sharing Center of Central will be the beneficiaries of the Health First Fight Child Hunger 5K set for January 10, 2026. David Brubaker shares the details about the event along with information about the Sharing Center in Cocoa.

Samantha Miles is executive director of Florida Tech’s Vertex Applied Innovation Hub in Palm Bay. The 100,000 square foot facility is expanding services to help emerging technology companies further research, design, and market preparedness. family has a long history in the independent jewelry business in Brevard County. Staci Sullivan and her mother, Isabel Sullivan operate Sullivan’s Jewelers in downtown Melbourne. This holiday season they have created ‘Sparkle for Good, a curated collection of jewelry of which a portion of sale proceeds will go to charities around Brevard.

Chris Beavers is leading The Historic Cocoa Village Playhouse into a new era while honoring the theater’s past. On January 10, the Playhouse, in conjunction with Manav Mandir Temple will present ‘Glimpses of India’ performed by Surati for Performing Arts of New Jersey. Beavers and Nina Gadodia share the story as well as news of future construction plans for the adjacent 302 R.M. Rembert Building. The Playhouse is seeking and is thankful for the community’s support.

The Dairy Road discovery Center has expanded with the addition of “The Ranch” bringing the campus to 16,000 square feet of space filled with children learning and thriving. Dairy Road Discovery Center was founded by Jo Godwin along with the support of her husband, Dr. Jeff Godwin, an area veterinarian. The family business will mark its 35th year in 2026 under the guidance and ownership of their daughter, Natalie Ward.

Junior Achievement of the Space Coast will induct Keith Windsten and Kendall Moore into the Junior Achievement Business Hall of Fame on January 24, 2026. The honor is annually bestowed on two Brevard business and community leaders. This is the 40th Hall of Fame Laureate Induction. JA Board members Larry Jarnes, Moses Harvin II, Mark Malek and JA President and CEO Jack Pladdys recently met with Winsten and Moore to celebrate their selection .
Orlando Health recently celebrated the opening of their Outpatient Cardiac Rehabilitation Services facility at the Centre at Suntree on North Wickham Road. Dr. Dwayne Badgett is a board-certified vascular surgeon. He is joined at the celebration of the new facility by Shannon Harrington, one of the first patients to enroll in and complete the program,
The American Advertising Federation Space Coast Chapter is accepting entries for its Addy Award competition with winners to be announced at the February 21st Speaker Series and Gala event. They have won hundreds of cases over the years helping Brevardians who have been in accidents of various sorts, from automobile crashes to on-the-job injuries. The team of local attorneys includes Jack Hamilton, Sam Cacciatore, and Maddison Cacciatore-Straus.

Family Partnerships of Central Florida is seeking families to foster children. Formerly Brevard Family Partnership, the four county organization led by Philip (Phil) Scarpelli is the lead child-welfare organization in Central Florida. His team helps families in crisis heal, learn parenting skills, gain financial strength and eventually reunify with their children who have been placed in the child-welfare system.

Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy’s $10 million IDEAS Institute is complete and welcoming students. The building is designed to give teachers and students the space to learn more creatively in more experiential and engaging ways. The production team included the project team includes: Rob Perers, Pam Oliveira–Jackson, Justin Morton, Ryan Pollack, Angelina Wheeler–Chong, Ryan Witzel, Mike Williams Jr., Randy Trent and Marcus Ingeldsen.
