A group dressed in black tactical gear used fireworks to draw officers outside the Prairieland Detention Center in Alvarado, Texas.

When an Alvarado police officer arrived and stepped out of his vehicle, a gunman hidden nearby opened fire and struck him in the neck.

At the same time, another gunman fired 20 to 30 rounds from an AR-15-style rifle at DHS officers.

The officers survived.

Federal authorities described the incident as an organized attack.

Multiple people involved were later convicted and received lengthy prison sentences, including one of 100 years.

Should attacks on law enforcement at immigration facilities be prosecuted as domestic terrorism?
