Dressed as zombies, seniors roamed the halls for their annual senior prank themed “Senior Apocalypse” on April 24.

"I loved seeing everyone all dressed up,” senior Sela Horgan said. “It’s so fun to see everyone look so different than usual. Everyone looked so awesome, and it’s epic whenever we come together and coordinate as a class."

Seniors decorated the school to resemble post-apocalyptic scenes with posters, caution tape, and toilet paper.

Senior class officer candidates give their speeches to the rising senior class in the gym on April 22. Senior class officer elections will be held April 24 during homeroom.

The “Roar” interviewed the 11 candidates, asking them what their goals were for the Class of 2027.

Responsibilities of the senior class include planning events, honoring time-held traditions, and fundraising for the important celebrations that make senior year memorable.

During the school’s second annual CPR training, 160 students practiced hands-on CPR and learned the importance of quick bystander response on Feb. 20. The event, organized by senior Rhea Sinha, featured talks from leaders in the nonprofit Who We Play For: Shawn Sima and Stacy Cartechine.

“As a mom who has lost a child to sudden cardiac arrest, especially when no one around him knew CPR, I’m thrilled to be part of this here at West Shore,” Cartechine said. “We love to come and support and educate the young people on how to do CPR because it is such a simple thing. The reality is anyone can save a life. It just takes two hands, you can do it.”

Cartechine encouraged all students, regardless of whether they play a sport or not, to get regular heart screenings.

On Senior Night, the varsity boys basketball team faced Cocoa Beach at home on Tuesday, Jan. 28, coming off a 60-40 win over Edgewood. The Wildcats entered the game with a 4-12 record.

The senior ceremony took place before the game, when senior players Ethan Marana, Boston Boucher and Max Rogers, along with manager Liam Corey, were honored for their dedication to the program.

To carry on the tradition, all the seniors took the court for the opening tip, including Corey, who suited up for the first time all season. The first quarter was a defensive battle, with the Minutemen holding a 13-7 lead at the buzzer.

The Wildcats’ offense began to find its rhythm in the second quarter, outscoring the Minutemen 12-9 to cut the deficit to three points at halftime.

The Wildcats came out of the locker room strong, keeping it a one-score game for the opening minutes. The Minutemen closed the third quarter with a scoring run to extend the lead to 38-30.

Hungry for a Senior Night win, the Wildcats pulled within 46-45 with less than three minutes remaining. The Minutemen forced a late turnover to retain possession and sealed the game with a 50-45 win.

The Wildcats are the No. 5 seed in the Class 2A-District 6 tournament and are set to face Edgewood (7-11) on Feb. 3. The Wildcats have won the last two matchups against the Red Wolves as they look to advance in the district tournament.

On Senior Night, the varsity girls basketball team faced Odyssey Charter School at home in a conference match on Tuesday, January 28, coming off a 57-36 win over Edgewood. The Wildcats went into the match with a 12-5 record.

Before the game, senior center Emily Marshall and senior manager Evangeline Trazzera were celebrated with a walk alongside their friends and family to honor their contributions to the program.

The first quarter set the tone for the game for the Wildcats, putting up 25 points while only allowing two points.

The Wildcats carried this momentum into the second quarter, scoring 12 points and holding the Titans to nine points, sending the Wildcats into halftime with a 37-11 lead.

Marshall and junior Erynn Moffett continued to put on a show as the Cats racked up 21 more points while the Titans put up five points.

The Wildcats rounded out the fourth quarter with 11 more points to secure a 69-21 win over the Titans.

Marshall ended her Senior Night with 12 points, four rebounds and three assists, while Moffett scored 19.

The Wildcats currently have the No. 2 seed in the 2A District 6 tournament and will go on the road to face Satellite (13-7) on Jan. 29 at 6 p.m. for their final regular season game.
