Twelve years ago I had the privilege of interviewing John v.H. Halsey, a 12th-generation Long Islander and founder of Peconic Land Trust. Since 1983, the Trust has helped protect nearly 14,000 acres across Long Island — preserving working farms and natural lands for future generations.

Today we had the privilege of welcoming students from the PROSPER Program at the The Viscardi Center to learn about our business and the production industry.

PROSPER — run through Abilities Inc. at the Viscardi School — is designed to increase self-awareness and expose students to a wide range of future opportunities and career paths. Serving junior and senior students who may not thrive in a traditional high school setting, the program brings “real world” academics through immersive experiences.

Each year, students participate in more than 20 tours and site visits, connecting with organizations such as the U.S. Army and Marine Corps, JetBlue, and LIPA — all with the goal of expanding horizons and building confidence beyond graduation.

We’re honored to play a small role in that journey and to share what’s possible in the world of storytelling and production.
