Day 3 of the Hackathon was a success. 20 teams presented in every single student walked away with something. Congratulations to all the students who came together worked hard and locked in for the next for the weekend and turned nothing into something. Be proud of what you can do when you have a goal, stay focused, and have a team of support. The future of technology is in great hands. We are turning to Memphis into Stemphis.

Day 2 of Hackathon was a success! Students ideas are coming together. A lot of debugging happened today. I told them mistakes are expected to happen. Mistakes are how we learn. Time management was very important during the Hackathon. One minute you spend not focused is an advantage the other group has over you. 🎬✨ What an amazing way to close out Code Crew Camp! From bubbles floating through the air and colorful sidewalk chalk to tug-of-war battles, nonstop laughter, and big smiles, our campers made every moment count. We topped it all off with a movie, popcorn, cupcakes, and juice—the perfect ending to an unforgettable week! 🎉💙

This week was filled with learning, teamwork, creativity, new friendships, and memories that will last long after camp is over. Thank you to our incredible campers, families, volunteers, and staff for making Code Crew Camp such a success.

💻 Understanding the main(); function is a big step in learning to code!

In today’s CodeHS lesson, we learned where a program begins and why organizing our code with a main(); function makes it easier to read and understand. Instead of listing every command separately, we create reusable functions and let main(); tell the story of our program.

Today’s challenge: Reorganize the Pancakes program using the main(); function—and we nailed it! 🎉

Every great programmer starts with the basics. Keep practicing, keep building, and keep coding! 🚀

AI arrived faster than education could adapt.
Most people learned by opening a chatbot and hoping for the best.
But AI literacy is about much more than prompts.
It’s about asking better questions.
Thinking critically.
Recognizing misinformation.
Understanding bias.
Using technology responsibly.
Across six interactive lessons, students learn that AI should support human thinking—not replace it.
The goal was never to teach students to depend on AI.
The goal was to teach them how to think in a world shaped by AI.

🎮 Game Development Lesson Recap 🎮

Today we learned that great games don’t start as huge projects—they start with small ideas that developers are willing to finish.

Before jumping into FlowLab, we explored key game development principles:
✅ Start small
✅ Build first, perfect later
✅ Set milestones
✅ Test often
✅ Learn from feedback
✅ Keep creating even when challenges appear

Then we put those ideas into action by building our own game levels in FlowLab! Students learned how to:
🎨 Customize game worlds and backgrounds
🌎 Adjust gravity and world settings
🧱 Create walls and obstacles
☠️ Build kill blocks using collision detection
🦘 Add player movement and jumping
🎬 Create animations
↔️ Flip character sprites based on movement
🎵 Add sound effects and background music

The biggest takeaway: Every great game developer started with a small project and learned from the process. Focus on progress, not perfection.
