The TRUTH of Trucking 🚛💨
For those who don’t know me—my name is Krystal Dixon. I’ve been in the trucking industry for 3 years now, working as an OTR flatbed driver. I primarily haul contracted government freight for the Department of Defense 🇺🇸 and the Department of Energy ☣️. This career has tested me, taught me, and transformed me—and I’m still out here on this blacktop.
Here’s my honest take on the Pros and Cons of Trucking from the front lines:
✅ PROS:
• Freedom – No clocking in, no cubicle. Just the open road and my own pace.
• Scenic views – I get to witness parts of the country most people only see in pictures.
• Good income – Trucking has helped me to easily make over 6 figures annually.
• Job security – Freight always needs to move, and reliable drivers are always needed.
• Self-growth – Being out here alone builds discipline, grit, and independence.
⛔ CONS:
• Time away from family – Missing special moments with my loved ones never gets easier.
• Fatigue – Long hours, tough terrain, and weather conditions can wear you down quick.
• Health challenges – It takes discipline to eat well, stay active, and prioritize self-care on the road.
• Stress – The pressure to stay on schedule, handle heavy loads, and deal with dispatch is real.
• Loneliness – Relationships are hard in trucking. You will get cheated on and lose friends.
Trucking isn’t easy. It’s not for everyone. But for me, it’s more than a job—it’s a lifestyle I’ve learned to love. It’s taught me how strong I really am.
