🏖️ Where’s the closest beach to your part of Tennessee?

It turns out there’s no one “Tennessee beach.” Depending on where you live, your quickest escape to the sand could be in Mississippi, Alabama, Florida, Georgia, or South Carolina.

🌊 Memphis → Ocean Springs (or Gulf Shores for that emerald Gulf water)
🌊 Nashville → Gulf Shores
🌊 Cookeville → Panama City Beach
🌊 Knoxville → Isle of Palms (or keep going to Edisto 😉)
🌊 Johnson City → Myrtle Beach
🌊 Chattanooga → Panama City Beach or Tybee Island

So… where does your family head when it’s beach time?

Tennessee’s official state beverage isn’t wh***ey.

It’s milk. And June is . Stole some Tennessee dairy facts from the fine folks at the The Dairy Alliance Thanks y'all! (Hope you don't mind.)

Tennessee dairy farms produced 47.2 million gallons of milk last year — enough to flood Nashville’s Lower Broadway with about 20 feet of milk.
Tennessee has about 110 dairy farms.
The state’s 22,000 dairy cows produce about 7 gallons of milk each day.
The most consumed dairy product in Tennessee is cheese, followed closely by ice cream.

Dairy farming is hard work. If you enjoy a cheeseburger go hug a Tennessee dairy farmer.

And if Tennessee is your thing, State & Beale is your thing.

Memphis Flyway — the best view from the very edge of Tennessee.

I headed down to Tom Lee Park to check out the brand-new Memphis Flyway, a 220-foot elevated walkway that takes you right over the bluff, through the trees, and out toward some incredible views of the Mississippi River.

It’s named for the Mississippi Flyway, one of North America’s major bird migration routes, and it might just be one of the coolest new viewpoints in Memphis.

If you’re looking for a reason to get outside this weekend, this is a pretty good one.

At 19 years old, I was covering the Smyrna beat for the Daily News Journal when two stories changed me: 9/11 and the Captain D’s triple homicide.

One day I was a college student at MTSU. The next, my editor was telling me to get to the newsroom because it was all hands on deck.

The man was John Murrell, the Great Western Land Pirate, and his story includes hidden treasure, Mark Twain, a missing skull, and one of the strangest legends in Tennessee history.
