Today, we celebrate the life and revolutionary legacy of Sly Stone, a fearless innovator whose music redefined funk, soul, and rock & roll. As the visionary leader of Sly & The Family Stone, he gave us timeless anthems like Everyday People, Family Affair, and Thank You. More than hits, Sly gave us a sound, and a message that shook the system.

He didn’t just break genre boundaries, he obliterated them, creating a multiracial, multigender band in a time of division and injecting psychedelic soul with a radical joy and truth that still echoes in every beat of modern music.

From the stages of Woodstock to the soul of every dance floor since, Sly Stone reminded us that unity, funk, and freedom could live in the same groove. Rest in power to a true musical prophet.

We had the honor of hosting a beautiful reception in partnership with the Rhodes College Africana Studies Program to introduce and celebrate —a powerful evening of connection, culture, and community.

From shared memories to soulful reflections, every story is a testament to the rich legacy and vibrant future of South Memphis.

Thank you to all who showed up, spoke up, and stood with us in celebration of Black voices, Heritage preservation, and Southern storytelling.

What does it truly mean to be a creative entrepreneur? Many business owners don’t see themselves as creatives, but creativity fuels innovation, problem-solving, and cultural transformation.

The BIG We & Sankofa Research Institute, with support from The Wallace Foundation and Memphis Slim House, invite you to a Think Tank session.

This research-driven focus group will explore how Black artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs in Memphis can build self-sustaining economic and cultural ecosystems. Your insights will help shape the future of our city’s creative economy.

Get paid $75 for your time and expertise and influence how philanthropic and arts organizations invest in Black creativity.

Each session lasts 90 minutes, and you can pick the time that works best for you:
