Memphis Slim Collaboratory educate, support, and inspire the Memphis music community It all happens at the Memphis Slim Collaboratory.

In a city where blues gave birth to rock n' roll and R&B stepped before the beat to create soul, where do artist go to find the collaboration that made Memphis world renowned? The Memphis Slim Collaboratory is the city's only community gathering place where professionals of every genre can create and share music. Imagine the soundtrack throughout the city when classical musicians can compose along

side hip hop artists, rockers contribute their edge to opera singers, or soulful sirens inject their rhythm into americana sounds. Slim House aims to be a gathering place that attracts, supports, and retains all who are, or aspire to be, involved in the music industry within Memphis area. Professional members receive use of the facility for rehearsal space, recording demos and events at free or reduced rates. There is also education on every aspect of the music industry, computer work stations and access to experienced industry professionals for consultation and guidance. Slim House offers a one stop for composing and connecting with industry professionals to offering a dependable home base for rehearsals and hosting listening parties. Slim House members pay an annual fee to receive a benefit package of Slim House amenities. Musicians, producers, and music industry creatives can join as professional members. Fans of Memphis music can support the Slim House by joining as donor members or volunteers. The foundation of the Slim House is community so there is a place for everyone. Today, we celebrate the life and revolutionary legacy of Sly Stone, a fearless innovator whose music redefined funk, soul, and rock & roll. As the visionary leader of Sly & The Family Stone, he gave us timeless anthems like Everyday People, Family Affair, and Thank You. More than hits, Sly gave us a sound, and a message that shook the system.

He didn’t just break genre boundaries, he obliterated them, creating a multiracial, multigender band in a time of division and injecting psychedelic soul with a radical joy and truth that still echoes in every beat of modern music.

From the stages of Woodstock to the soul of every dance floor since, Sly Stone reminded us that unity, funk, and freedom could live in the same groove. Rest in power to a true musical prophet.

We had the honor of hosting a beautiful reception in partnership with the Rhodes College Africana Studies Program to introduce and celebrate —a powerful evening of connection, culture, and community.

From shared memories to soulful reflections, every story is a testament to the rich legacy and vibrant future of South Memphis.

The BIG We & Sankofa Research Institute, with support from The Wallace Foundation and Memphis Slim House, invite you to a Think Tank session.

This research-driven focus group will explore how Black artists, creatives, and entrepreneurs in Memphis can build self-sustaining economic and cultural ecosystems. Your insights will help shape the future of our city’s creative economy.

Get paid $75 for your time and expertise and influence how philanthropic and arts organizations invest in Black creativity.

Each session lasts 90 minutes, and you can pick the time that works best for you:
