Sounds of Memphis began in 1962 by Gene Lucchesi - the original home (XL/Pen Records) to Sam the Sham & The Pharaoh’s, “Wooly Bully” - which houses a fantastic collection of vintage gems from the ‘60s & ‘70s. was formed by our current president Linda Lucchesi, expanding the existing SOM catalog with authentic ‘80s Pop/R&B tunes to contemporary genres from the last three decades.

Happy Birthday to a true Soul Man, the late Sam Moore. 💜

Born on this day in 1935, Moore’s powerful tenor voice helped define the sound of soul as one half of the legendary duo Sam & Dave. With classics like “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Comin’,” he helped shape the Stax Records sound that continues to move and inspire generations.
