Sounds of Memphis began in 1962 by Gene Lucchesi - the original home (XL/Pen Records) to Sam the Sham & The Pharaoh’s, “Wooly Bully” - which houses a fantastic collection of vintage gems from the ‘60s & ‘70s. was formed by our current president Linda Lucchesi, expanding the existing SOM catalog with authentic ‘80s Pop/R&B tunes to contemporary genres from the last three decades.

Today we don’t just celebrate a birthday — we honor a true hero. K9 Rex has spent his life serving with courage and heart, running toward danger when others run away. With a nose sharper than any radar and loyalty beyond words, he’s helped track suspects, detect threats, and protect lives alongside his handler, Officer Martinez.

Born with grit and trained to serve, Rex graduated top of his class and has stood on the front lines ever since. His bond with Martinez is one of trust and bravery — a partnership that has made our community safer time and again.

But today, we trade sirens for squeaky toys and duty for joy. Rex gets his favorite peanut butter bacon treat, and we get to thank him — for his courage, loyalty, and service. You may not know the word hero, Rex, but you live it every day...❤️

Born on this day in 1935, Moore’s powerful tenor voice helped define the sound of soul as one half of the legendary duo Sam & Dave. With classics like “Soul Man” and “Hold On, I’m Comin’,” he helped shape the Stax Records sound that continues to move and inspire generations.
