Celebrating Legacy and Leadership at the Seventh Annual Legacy Awards
WeCare TN hosted its seventh annual Legacy Awards this week, a signature event held during Transgender Awareness Week. The awards were created to celebrate and empower the transgender community by recognizing excellence, fostering inclusivity, and uplifting voices that are often overlooked. The mission of the Legacy Awards is to honor the many transgender individuals whose work has shaped their communities, strengthen understanding and acceptance, and inspire the next generation of leaders.
Focus Magazine was honored to attend the celebration tonight. The event took place at The Avenue downtown, a warm and beautiful venue filled with energy. The venue space was decorated with care and welcomed a crowd dressed in glitz and glamour to match the 80s theme. Photo booths stayed busy and guests enjoyed capturing the night with plenty of selfies and group shots.
Fourteen honorees were recognized for their contributions. Guests traveled from across the country, which made the room feel both national and local. The night also included a shared meal prepared by Chef Eli Townsend, whose catering brought everyone together at the table. Entertainment came from Malachi Mariah the Goat, and Zoey, each adding spirit and heart to the evening.
The Legacy Awards continue to serve as an important space for joy, remembrance, and community. During Transgender Awareness Week, this gathering reminds us of the strength found in shared stories, the power of recognition, and the importance of creating spaces where transgender people are seen, valued, and celebrated. Tonight’s event honored the ongoing work and the lived experiences of so many who continue to shape a more inclusive future.
