🚂🗞️ In 1941, Mayor Charles Dean had a message for the railroads: cut the unnecessary whistling! This Collierville Herald clipping from May 9, 1941, shows how even then, the sound of trains was a hot topic in town.

We’re celebrating all things railroad (whistles included!) at Train Heritage Day next weekend—Saturday, August 16th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. Come explore Collierville’s railroading past and see why trains have always been part of our story.

We are deeply saddened to share the passing of Jack Westbrook, a beloved member of our community. Jack was known for his decades of support through hundreds of heartfelt letters, often spotlighting Town employees, elected leaders, and moments of civic pride.

He was honored earlier this spring by Mayor Maureen Fraser for his dedication to Collierville. facebook.com/share/p/16ijg7Dqu5/ This week, he was honored on the front page of The Collierville Herald Independent (shown in the photo).

Thanks to the generosity of our community, Jack received a complete computer setup and tech tutorials, allowing him to continue his passion for writing in the digital age.

Jack's story is a testament to the power of community and the impact one person can have. We are grateful for the time we had with him and the joy he brought to so many.

Thank you, Jack, for lifting us with your words. You will be missed.

Dear YMCA Members & Program Participants,

We want to reassure you that the situation prompting today's precautionary lockdown has been fully resolved. Law enforcement has confirmed there is no danger to any of our YMCA locations, and we have received the all clear to return to normal operations.

Through swift action and close coordination with authorities, we were able to identify the source of the concern and confirm that there was never a true threat to our association.
Everyone at our facilities remains safe. We are incredibly thankful for the quick, professional response of our YMCA team and for the strong support and presence of our local law enforcement partners.

All YMCA operations will return to normal tomorrow, Saturday, June 14.

Thank you for your patience, your understanding, and for being part of our YMCA family.

Just who is the The Collierville Herald-Independent? ... The Collierville Herald-Independent is your hometown newspaper

The Collierville Herald-Independent, has a wonderful place in Collierville history. We have had the incredible opportunity to watch the town grow from a small farming community to one of the most desirable places to live in west Tennessee.

From Community balls and picnics in the 1870s, horse racing on a track built in 1898 near Highways 72 and 57, bank robberies in the 1930s and the reign of the first Cheese Carnival queen in 1935, we’ve been here through it all. And today, we continue to cover the important events in our community, from commercial and industrial growth to the new state-of-the-art high school, the largest in the state.

We have documented the change from life on the the quaint town square to the ever-growing town of Collierville. We look forward to school, shopping, housing and commercial growth happening in the Collierville area. Through it all, we will continue to partner with you to bring you the best local news and information.
