“I congratulate everyone if statehood is restored”: BJP’s Ashok Koul

=>Amid growing speculation that statehood to Jammu and Kashmir may be restored on August 5, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Ashok Koul on Monday said the party would congratulate everyone if the Union government grants back the status.

“If statehood is restored, we congratulate everyone,” Koul told news agency KINS.

He however said he has no information if the statehood would be restored. “The PM and HM have already said that statehood would be restored but I don’t know when,” he said, responding to unconfirmed reports suggesting that the Centre might announce the restoration of statehood on the anniversary of the abrogation of Article 370.

He said that the revocation of Article 370 has fully integrated Jammu and Kashmir with the rest of India and led to the removal of “draconian laws” that had hampered development in the erstwhile state. “Article 370 revocation has integrated J&K with India and removed draconian laws,” he said.

Commenting on Jammu and Kashmir leaders meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi, Koul said it was a positive step. “It is good they are meeting since he is everyone’s Home Minister,” he added.

Security Forces Bust Terrorist Hideout in Kupwara, Recover Arms and Explosives

=>In a major success against terrorism, security forces on Monday uncovered a hideout in Kalaroos area of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, recovering arms and explosives during a joint search operation.

An official told news agency JKNS that the operation was carried out jointly by the Border Security Force (BSF), Army, and Jammu and Kashmir Police over three days, culminating in the discovery of a stony cave hideout on August 4.

The recoveries include 12 Chinese grenades, a Chinese pistol with ammunition, a Kenwood radio set, an Urdu IED manual, and fire sticks, he said.

Officials said the recovery has foiled a “major nefarious plan of terrorists” in the region. Security forces have intensified searches in the area to ensure no further threat remains.

Cognizance of the matter has been taken, and further investigation is underway. (JKNS)

J&K statehood:
Buzz grows as PM, Amit Shah meet President

=> The fact that these meetings came days ahead of the Article 370 abrogation anniversary on August 5 has only added grist to the rumour mill.

Buzz around the restoration of statehood for Jammu and Kashmir dominated chatter on social media amid the President's back-to-back meetings with Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah.

Separately, Shah has also held meetings with some J&K leaders as well as the BJP chief of the erstwhile state, which was bifurcated into two Union Territories and its special status was abrogated six years ago. Sources said PM Modi has also called a key meeting of NDA MPs on Tuesday.

The fact that these meetings came days ahead of the Article 370 abrogation anniversary on August 5 has only added grist to the rumour mill.

On August 3, PM Modi called on President Droupadi Murmu at the Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi. Interestingly, details of the meeting were not made available. Usually, a PIB statement follows such meetings.

Hours later, Amit Shah had a one-on-one meeting with the President.

In the first two days of the month, the Home Minister also held meetings with J&K BJP chief Sat Sharma and Lieutenant Governor of Ladakh Kavinder Gupta.

On Monday, the president of the All J&K Shia Association, Imran Raza Ansari, met Shah to discuss the on-ground realities in the Union Territory.

Imran Raza Ansari Seeks Rehabilitation, Religious Freedom in Meeting with Amit Shah

=>All J&K Shia Association President Imran Raza Ansari held a detailed meeting with Union Home Minister Amit Shah in New Delhi on Monday, focusing on rehabilitation of terror-affected families, religious freedoms, and other key concerns of Jammu & Kashmir.

During the meeting, Ansari raised key issues concerning the people of the Union Territory, including the urgent need for the rehabilitation of families affected by terrorism. He appreciated the efforts made under the leadership of Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha, while also highlighting that several cases still require immediate attention and consistent follow-up.

The discussion also covered the recent observance of Muharram in the region. Ansari expressed gratitude for the cooperation extended by both the Central and UT administrations but flagged the ban on a few traditional processions. He urged that measures be taken to allow their peaceful revival from next year, in line with religious freedoms and local sentiments.

“We had an open and constructive dialogue,” Ansari said after the meeting. “I conveyed both my appreciation for the positive steps taken so far and my concerns regarding areas that need further action. I am hopeful that the discussion will translate into meaningful results for the people on the ground.”

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with a shared commitment to maintaining peace, promoting inclusivity, and addressing the socio-political concerns of Jammu & Kashmir. (JKNS)

Lt Colonel of Army Assaults SpiceJet Staff at Srinagar Airport; FIR Registered After Spinal, Jaw Fracture

=> A Lieutenant Colonel of the Indian Army allegedly assaulted SpiceJet ground staff at Srinagar Airport during a heated altercation over excess cabin baggage, causing serious injuries including a spinal fracture and a broken jaw.

The incident occurred at Boarding Gate No. 2 minutes before the scheduled departure of SpiceJet Flight SG-386 to Delhi on July 26.

The officer was later identified as Lt. Colonel Ritesh Kumar Singh, currently posted at the High Altitude Warfare School (HAWS) in Gulmarg, sources confirmed to Srinagar based news agency Kashmir Dot Com, adding that the army officer was boarding to travel on Seat No. 24D-Delhi SpiceJet flight scheduled to depart at 1810 hours from Srinagar on July 26.

Sources said the dispute erupted when the Army officer was informed that his two pieces of cabin baggage weighed 16 kilograms—more than double the permitted 7 kg limit.

When politely asked to pay the applicable charges, he allegedly refused and attempted to forcefully board the flight by entering the aerobridge without completing the required boarding formalities.

A CISF official intercepted him and escorted him back to the gate,” they said.

According to SpiceJet’s official statement, the situation quickly turned violent at the boarding gate.

“The passenger grievously assaulted our staff members with punches, repeated kicks, and even used a queue stand as a weapon,” said a spokesperson for the airline.

One employee collapsed unconscious but was continuously kicked. Another suffered serious facial injuries, including a fractured jaw, after being struck while assisting his colleague.”

Medical teams at the airport provided initial aid before the injured employees were rushed to hospital.

One of the staffers reportedly sustained a spinal fracture, while another suffered jaw and facial injuries with bleeding from the nose and mouth.

The airline has secured CCTV footage from airport authorities and submitted it to police as part of the investigation.

A First Information Report (FIR) has been formally registered against the officer with local police.

SpiceJet has also written to the Ministry of Civil Aviation, calling the assault “murderous” and urging appropriate action.

“We strongly condemn any act of violence against our employees and will pursue this matter to its fullest legal and regulatory conclusion,” the statement read.

Personnel from the Airport Security Group (ASG) swiftly intervened and brought the situation under control without disrupting flight operations.

The flight later departed on schedule.

As of now, there has been no official response from Army. The matter is under active investigation by the local police.
