Remembering a Legend: Fred Smith 🎶
Today, we’re pausing to honor the incredible life and legacy of Fred Smith, the visionary founder of FedEx, who recently passed away. His impact on the world of business is undeniable, but for us at Ardent Studios, his story is woven into our very foundations.
Fred’s connection to Ardent runs deep, starting way back in grade school at Memphis University School (MUS) where he and our founder, John Fry, were classmates, both graduating in the class of 1962. Their friendship was truly special, and it laid the groundwork for something groundbreaking.
Back in 1959, while still in high school, Fred, John, and their friend John King, fueled by a shared passion for electronics and music, co-founded Ardent Records right in John Fry’s family garage. This humble beginning was the genesis of what would become Ardent Studios. Fred’s early belief in John’s vision and his instrumental support were key to getting the studio off the ground.
Fred Smith was more than just a business titan; he was a dear friend, a co-founder, and a pivotal figure in our own Ardent story. We’re incredibly grateful for his contributions and the enduring legacy he leaves behind. Our hearts go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.
