Happy pre-901 Day! Every day my love for this city and the people in it grows more and more.

Went to the Museum | Archive | Gallery during the city’s celebration on Beale St. I met Mr. Ernest C. Withers several times when I was a kid, but not until today did I realize just how many iconic images he was responsible for. My God!

Anyway, I was so inspired, that I stepped out of the gallery, right onto Beale St. and grabbed this shot. I’ve lived many lives, and photographer was one of them🫡

Go check out the Museum | Archive | Gallery. It’s donation-based, right across from the New Daisy on Beale. It’s a must for every Memphian - every American, really.

While I was there, stumbled across a photo of our matriarch holding her voter’s registration card. My granddaddy (and her too!) sacrificed so much so that we could have the right to vote. They were kicked out of their home for even wanting to vote. She was one of the first to get her voters’ registration card, because of their work, and you can see the joy in her face.

This is also one of very few photos we have of her. Thank you, Mr. Withers 💙
