The Greenport Fire Department said a family was able to get out of their burning home safely after their cat alerted them to the danger.

Sadly, the cat, who hid in the home during the fire, died from smoke inhalation despite lifesaving measures.

The Greenport Fire Department along with other local fire departments battled an early morning fire that took the life of a family's cat, said Greenport Fire Chief Mark Taylor.

Two Albany men were arrested on felony drug charges after a routine parole check on North Pearl Street Friday, according to the Albany County Sheriff's Office.

The men are scheduled to be arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court Saturday.
