The Mt. San Jacinto College football team put it all together last weekend in a 71-0 victory over LA Southwest at home.

MSJC scored almost immediately and carried a commanding 57–0 lead into halftime. Quarterback Julian Silva connected with Khalil Lang, Omari Wilcox, and JT Trevino, who each found the end zone. Running back Jeremiah Walthour found the end zone multiple times, while the special-teams unit blocked a punt and returned it for another touchdown.

MSJC’s defense dominated from start to finish. The defensive line kept constant pressure on the LA Southwest quarterbacks, while the secondary locked down the passing game and recorded multiple interceptions. Together, they completed the shutout and held LA Southwest scoreless for the entire game.

MSJC improved to 2–1 and returns home Saturday, Sept. 19, at 6 p.m. to face Southwestern.

We are pursuing information on a car vs. pedestrian collision (possibly a bicyclist) at the intersection of Holland Road and Evans Road about 5:30 p.m. A witness states that a car being chased by police ran a red light. Menifee PD confirms that the collision occurred but has no details for us at this point.

It appears likely that only one of the three listed candidates for the Menifee City Council seat in District 4 will attend the Sept. 23 Menifee 24/7 Candidates Forum at Liberty High School.

As most residents have probably heard by now, Randy Madrid faces felony charges of perjury and election fraud after his arrest by the District Attorney’s Office for falsifying residence records. In addition, we have received no response from Daniel Stephens to our invitation to attend.

In fact, members of our staff have tried numerous ways to contact Stephens, who has no public presence as a candidate and who declined to even submit a candidate statement to the City of Menifee. We have even reached out to Mayor Ricky Estrada – like Stephens, a U.S. Air Force reserve member living in Menifee – whether he knows Stephens or can explain his public absence.

Estrada did not respond.

Frank Sandoval, a Menifee resident since 1990, is the only District 4 candidate who has committed to attend. Guests at the Forum will have an opportunity to hear from Sandoval and ask him questions at the event, which will begin at 7 p.m. in the Liberty High School theater.

In addition, District 2 candidates Ben Diederich, Laz Peterson, and Tom Fuhrman have all announced their intention to attend.
