On this day we remember the brave and fearless Men & Women who sacrificed and still do for all of us! We Pray and send our sincere condolences and prayers to their family and friends. Nicole Hollings announced that she will be taking a leave of absence as principal of Sanford H. Calhoun High School effective immediately, according to an emailed letter sent to high school families.

The Herald received a copy of the Aug. 5 letter, which was written a little over a month after Hollings, 52, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident in Rockville Centre, according to village officials.

โ€œI have decided to take a leave of absence for a period of time as I navigate the personal issues I am facing,โ€ Hollings wrote.

No temporary replacement for Hollings has been announced yet.

Nassau County is under a moderate risk of excessive rainfall tonight with a 40โ€“70% chance of flash flooding. Numerous flash floods are likely through midnight. Streams and rivers may rise quickly โ€” stay alert and be prepared to act fast.

Flood Dangers Are Real:
โš ๏ธ Most flood fatalities happen in vehicles.
โš ๏ธ Floodwaters can rise and move fast โ€” and they hide dangerous hazards.
โš ๏ธ Even after the water recedes, roads and ground can be unstable.

What You NEED to Know:
๐Ÿšซ Do NOT drive through flooded roads.
๐Ÿšง NEVER drive around barricades.
๐Ÿ’ง Stay OUT of floodwaters โ€” they can contain sewage, chemicals, sharp debris, live wires, and more.
