I am sharing this at the request of Jayden Flores’s family. There is not much that is able to ease the pain that the family is experiencing right now, but every time I mention how many people and students stop by the front of the house to pay their respects to Jayden, it fills their hearts to know that he is being prayed over. As a reminder swimming is prohibited at all New York City and Long Island beaches today and Thursday due to hurricane Erin threatening to bring dangerous with currents and waves as large as 13 ft to the shore all along the East Coast. Please stay safe! 🙏

Nicole Hollings announced that she will be taking a leave of absence as principal of Sanford H. Calhoun High School effective immediately, according to an emailed letter sent to high school families.

The Herald received a copy of the Aug. 5 letter, which was written a little over a month after Hollings, 52, was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated following a motor vehicle accident in Rockville Centre, according to village officials.

“I have decided to take a leave of absence for a period of time as I navigate the personal issues I am facing,” Hollings wrote.

No temporary replacement for Hollings has been announced yet.
