Did you know that, got their start right here in Gary, In Before the world screamed their names, before the stadium tours, before the mania — a small Black‑owned label from Gary took a chance on four unknown kids from Liverpool.

Vee‑Jay Records said “yes” when everyone else said “nah.”
And the rest is music history.
Episode coming soon.

How Can Gary Win Big if the Stadium Lands in Hammond?
The headlines are all focused on one question: Will the Chicago Bears build their new stadium in Hammond, Indiana?
But that’s not the real story.
In this episode of Nerd’s Eye View, we break down why Gary doesn’t need the stadium to win — because the real opportunity isn’t in the building itself, it’s in the ecosystem around it. Hammond may get the structure, but Gary has the airport, the harbor, the highways, the land, the culture, and the creative energy that make a stadium district actually work.
We dive into:
• Why a stadium next door is leverage, not loss
• How Gary’s existing infrastructure positions it for long‑term growth
• Why Gary’s identity is bigger than any single project
• How outdated narratives hold the city back — and why some people resist seeing Gary’s potential
• The importance of local ownership before outside developers shape the future
• What it really means to invest in your city, your block, your business, your vision
This episode is about strategy, perception, and the future of Northwest Indiana.
It’s about reclaiming the narrative and recognizing the power Gary already has.
If you care about regional growth, creative ecosystems, or the future of Gary, this is the conversation you need to hear.

If we don’t claim our city, someone else will. This clip is a reminder that Gary’s future won’t be built by outsiders unless we leave the door wide open. Buy that small piece of land. Start that business. Plant your flag now. Because when developers come in with their own vision, the only voices that matter are the ones who already have a stake in the ground. Ownership is power — and it starts with us.

Some folks don’t get mad at the pictures — they get mad at the possibility. The moment you show a future version of Gary, people cling to the old narrative because it’s all they’ve ever been told. In this clip, we talk about why imagining a better Gary triggers people… and why that reaction says more about their limits than our city’s potential. The future doesn’t wait for permission — and neither should we.

Communication gets you in the door.
Consistency keeps you in the room.
Most relationships don’t fail from lack of love — they fail from lack of clarity and follow‑through.

A stadium next door isn’t a threat — it’s leverage. Gary already has the airport, the harbor, the highways, the land, and the culture that make a stadium ecosystem actually work. In this clip, we break down why Gary doesn’t need the stadium to win big… because the real opportunity is in everything the stadium depends on. Hammond might host the games, but Gary is built to host the growth.

Gary and Lake County have always had talent — real talent — but too many voices never get the platform they deserve.

I’m creating a new series under The Nerd’s Eye View to change that.
I want to highlight the artists who represent our sound, our struggle, our creativity, and our future.

So tell me:
Who are the musicians in Lake County that the world needs to hear?
Tag them. Share their music. Put me on.

Let’s document our culture the way it should’ve been documented a long time ago.

Everybody’s focused on where the stadium might land… but they’re missing the bigger play. Hammond might get the building, but Gary can get the boom — the culture, the commerce, the media, the lakefront energy, the whole ecosystem that makes a stadium matter. This clip breaks down why the real opportunity isn’t in the end zone… it’s in everything that surrounds it.

This is what resistance looked like in Gary.
An auditorium packed with students — not for a pep rally, not for a performance, but for a mass meeting to decide how to respond to segregation in their own school.
These young people weren’t just reacting.
They were organizing.
They were debating.
They were shaping the future of education in Gary.
In this room, the Emerson strike reached its turning point. Students discussed the city’s plan to relocate Black children to a temporary school. They weighed the compromise. They argued. They stood together.
And when they walked out of this meeting, they walked out with a unified voice.
This is the part of Gary’s history people never talk about —
the moment when students became leaders, and a school became a battleground for equality.

This is what victory looked like in Gary.
These young women from Emerson High School had just won their strike — a moment that proved students weren’t just witnesses to history… they were makers of it.
In a city divided by race, policy, and engineered inequality, these students stood up for what was right. They challenged a system that tried to silence them, and they walked away with a win that echoed far beyond the school walls.
This photo captures more than smiles.
It captures courage.
It captures unity.
It captures the moment when young people realized their voices could shake an entire city.
Gary’s fight for equality wasn’t only fought by adults.
The youth led, too — and they changed everything.
