Found a new kick mic combo I love! Shure beta 91a on kick in gives me plenty of top end be**er attack. My Peluso P87 on kick out about a foot from the resonate head gives me a super detailed front head sound thats predominately in the midrange. And last but not least, my Dr. Alien Subkick-01 dominates the low end of the kick! Balancing out these three mics to give me the tonal balance I want and is much more powerful than EQing the hell out of one mic. Looking forward to hearing this combo on future projects!

Currently experimenting with the location of the kit in my room. Lately i’ve noticed my drums have been lacking some mids and highs for my taste so I moved the kit to a naturally brighter, more ambient side of the room. I haven’t recorded drums on this side of the room yet, but from what I can hear from behind the kit, things seem to be working out. Drop a comment if you want audio examples of drums in different parts of the room! I’ll being doing some tests later today.

I’ve been eyeing this piece of gear for almost a year now and I’m stoked to finally own it! Excited to use this Thermionic Culture 16 channel tube summing mixer to warm up my mixes. On top of being a summing mixer, it also includes a high shelving EQ labeled “air” and a harmonic distortion control labeled “attitude.” The owls eyes also light up in color to show you how hard you’re hitting the unit. Now it’s time to solder some cables and hook it all up 😉

Currently making moves to start recording bands at 88.2khz sampling rate! Got an 8T external hard drive to store all my audio files and just upgraded my ram in my Mac Pro to 64gb of ram. Stoked to hear what higher sampling rates do to my recordings!
