Florida Highwayman artist James Gibson began his painting career in the early 1960s. He is one of the few from his cadre of African-American creative entrepreneurs of the Treasure Coast whose painting talents continuously sustained him – until he died last Saturday at age 79. In 2013, while we visited his home studio in Fort Pierce to drop off Moonlight and Moss for a minor repair, Gibson told Nancy and me about the fortuitous start to his fruitful professional life – along with a few of his sales strategies and "tricks of the trade."
