Inside the dome of life, you are the object of your perception. You see in all three hundred sixty degrees. Through your eyes, your brain is the filter. If your life is not how you want it to be, you can reprogram. With patience and perseverance, you can change your image of the simulation. You can't just flip a switch. You must retrain your brain, that is programmed our entire life to think a certain way. It's like building muscle. It takes hard work and repetition. You have to break down the old way of thinking. Then you can re-build. You can re-mold how your filter perceives. Life isn't perfect.
Chances are, there are things you want changed. So I want to change your perception of the River Cities Gazette. As we must evolve to a digital web-based platform, (www.rivercitiesgazzette.net) there are images inside your dome that have to go. Like reading this newspaper, a physical object made out of paper and ink.

Intersection of Flagler Street and Biscayne Boulevard, Miami, Florida (1895)

The intersection of Flagler Street and Biscayne Boulevard in 1895 marked the very beginning of Miami’s urban story. At that time, the area was still more frontier than city, with only a few wooden structures and open land. Henry Flagler’s railroad had just arrived, setting the stage for the birth of the city. This intersection would later become the heart of downtown, but in 1895 it was a place of potential and promise. The dirt streets and sparse surroundings highlight how new the settlement was. Within a few decades, it would grow into one of the busiest crossroads in the city.

Overtown, Miami, Florida (1915)

Overtown in 1915 was a thriving neighborhood known as the heart of Miami’s African American community. Originally called “Colored Town,” it was home to churches, schools, and businesses that supported a growing population. By 1915, the area reflected both struggle and resilience, as segregation laws confined Black residents to Overtown despite their essential role in building Miami. The streets were alive with shops, music, and cultural expression. The community fostered leaders, entrepreneurs, and artists who contributed greatly to the city’s identity. This view of Overtown in 1915 preserves the memory of one of Miami’s most important historic neighborhoods.

1st Street, Miami, Florida (1895)

A view of 1st Street in 1895 shows Miami at the very dawn of its development. This was the year the city was officially incorporated, with only a few hundred residents calling it home. The street was unpaved and modest wooden buildings dominated the landscape. Shops and businesses catered to settlers who had recently arrived, many drawn by Henry Flagler’s railroad expansion. The scene reflects a community still in its infancy but full of potential. Within a few decades, 1st Street would evolve into a busy commercial artery. The 1895 glimpse allows us to see Miami’s humble beginnings before its transformation into a metropolitan hub.
