New EP Silhouette by Paul Bedal out now!

Lingering at the edges—part memory, part mirage. Silhouette is the latest project from pianist and composer Paul Bedal—a four track suite of textured compositions that drift between ambient improvisation, chamber jazz, and cinematic minimalism.

Co-produced with multi-instrumentalist Dion Kerr, and featuring an ensemble of trusted collaborators— Caroline Davis (alto sax, flute), Steve Pardo (bass clarinet), Katie Ernst (voice), Will Miller (flugelhorn), and Peter Manheim (percussion)—the EP moves like light across water: always shifting, refracting emotion through tone and breath.

Originally conceived as piano etudes in 2021, the pieces took shape over sessions in Florida and Brooklyn, slowly growing into richly layered soundscapes. From the submerged pulses of “Pendulum” to the hazy vocal dream of “Lighthouse”, Silhouette feels like watching distant weather roll in—intimate, expansive, and quietly radiant.

Announcing new EP Silhoutte, plus single “Pendulum—a richly textured, immersive release featuring a stellar lineup of collaborators. Co-produced with multi-instrumentalist Dion Kerr, tracking basses, guitars, drums and electronic percussion. The four-track collection features Caroline Davis (alto sax, flute), Steve Pardo (bass clarinet), Katie Ernst (vocals), Will Miller (flugelhorn), and Peter Manheim (percussion)—all weaving together a sound that evokes distant landscapes and unseen horizons.

Originally conceived as a set of piano compositions in 2021, Silhouette took shape in early 2022 at Kerr’s studio in Delray Beach, FL, where Bedal and Kerr spent a week tracking keyboards, Wurlitzer, bass, guitars, drums, and percussion. Additional sessions in September at Kerr’s home studio expanded the sonic palette, followed by a trip to film composer Adam Robl’s space in South Miami, where they together layered synths and re-amped textures. Bedal later brought in longtime collaborator Caroline Davis, recording alto saxophone and flute at Figure 8 Studios in Brooklyn with engineer Dan Pierson. The final pieces fell into place with Katie Ernst’s ethereal vocals on Lighthouse and Will Miller’s expressive flugelhorn on Plume, seamlessly blending with Davis’ lines.

The single, “Pendulum,” is a slow-burning meditation in motion. With flute, alto saxophone, and bass clarinet weaving around each other, a hypnotic call takes shape—soaring above the rolling pulse laid down by co-producer Dion Kerr on bass and percussion.

Out today, Ghosts of Us, by Emily Kuhn!

Chicago-based trumpet player Emily Kuhn has made a name for herself as a composer and trumpeter with a distinctively lyrical voice.

Written during the Covid-19 pandemic and described by trumpeter Erol Tamerman as “sonorous and beautiful, unfurling in surprising ways, with full, delicious harmony,” the six songs on “Ghosts of Us” meditate on themes of stillness, connection, grief, and hope.
