Looking Back: Venice becomes a living work of art 🌊

During Biennale season, Marea by Melissa McGill transformed Corte Nova into a sea of suspended paintings inspired by the Venetian Lagoon, community, and resilience.

Created together with Venetian residents and students, the temporary public art intervention reflected on the importance of preserving authentic neighborhood life in Venice at a time of overtourism and environmental change.

Although the installation has ended, its reflection on Venice and resilience remains relevant.

The passing of Carlo Petrini feels like more than the loss of a food activist. It feels like the loss of a philosophy that reminded us to slow down, support local communities, protect traditions, and live more intentionally.

What began as a protest against fast food evolved into a global movement that challenged how we eat, live, consume, and connect with the world around us.

Through Slow Food, Petrini helped transform the global conversation around sustainability, biodiversity, regional cuisine, and culture — while reminding us that quality of life is often found in the simplest rituals.

For many who love Italy, that philosophy extends far beyond what’s on the table.

Our latest article reflects on Petrini’s legacy and why his ideas still matter today.
