Two for the price of one!

Great blue herons are ambush specialists. That bill hits like a spear gun and most strikes end with one fish. This one didn't.

Some shots you don't fully appreciate until you get home and pull them up on screen. These are two of them. A Purple Martin landing back at the nest, dragonfly secured, feathers catching the morning light in a way I couldn't have planned. I've been putting in early mornings at the wetland and this is the payoff.

Two incredible frames, both fighting for the top spot. You decide which one is better!

The red-winged blackbird is one of the most recognizable birds in North America, but you'd never guess the juvenile female and the adult male were the same species!

Females and young birds are streaky brown all over, built for camouflage while nesting and raising young on the ground. The bold black plumage and iconic red-and-yellow shoulder patches belong exclusively to the males, and those patches aren't just for show. A male can conceal or flash his red epaulettes depending on the situation, displaying them to rivals and potential mates or tucking them away to avoid a fight he's not looking for.

For a long time, I've been after a ghost in the wetlands. After many attempts hiking the northern region of the Florida Everglades, I finally scored my first bobcat.

One for the books.

An incredible day of encounters paddling the coastal Everglades. From a pod of bottlenose dolphins to North America's rarest heron, the Reddish Egret! Although we had some midday harsh lighting, there was no shortage of incredible wildlife to see during my paddle with . This is why I never say "no" to a day out in Florida Bay.

Debunking the "cottonmouths are aggressive and will chase you" myth.

The cottonmouth is a venomous aquatic snake that is purely defensive and will let you know when you're getting too close for its comfort.

Got to speak with Florida Governor candidate last night at Versailles and talked about conservation. As the founder of , I wanted to know where he stands on restoring Old Florida, not just protecting what's left. From our near extinct panthers to the fading seagrass of Florida Bay. From restoring citrus to reforming the FWC with real Floridians who care about our landscape and wildlife. Worth hearing him out regardless of where you stand.

(I didn't know to look at the camera or my phone LOL)

I present to you North America's rarest heron: the reddish egret! After paddling miles of the coastal Everglades and striking out on flamingos, I was able to spot this particular wading bird with a group of Wilson's snipes and other shore birds. I wanted to be sure before posting, but confirmed it was indeed a reddish egret! This is why I never say "no" to a day of paddling the Everglades. You never know what you'll bump into out there.
