“The houses belong to two brothers, who are very close, yet, have a different lifestyle. They wish to live close to each other and spend some time together. However, they also wish to establish a private distance when they need it. The architect initially began the design process by using one simple building typology and repeat it on both houses. However, once this design development gets into the detail level the logic of repetition has evolved to respond to a different need of two different individuals. As a result, these two houses at Nichada do look appropriately similar at first glance, yet they can contain their own specific atmosphere once we dwell within them.”
_
“The typology of these two houses is organized in a long rectangular format. The automobile garages are located on the west at the entrance of the houses, and the main double volume living area is on the east at the end of the houses. Then, programs such as foyers, dining area, kitchens, toilets, and guess bedrooms are placed in between the garages and the living area to perform as a transition from the outside as we move further inward to the house. The main master bedrooms are placed on top of these transitional areas allowing a direct visual dialogue to the main living area. Both houses are visually connected as one big living room through the large sliding doors on both houses, and they are marked the edge of the house by single flight stairs. Basically, these two houses share this repetitive logical organization.”

“Ocean front views are taken to the next level with a 20ft cantilever balcony that juts out over the ocean. Exposed concrete, steel i-beams create an industrial aesthetic that is tempered with natural Cumaru wood ceilings and stone floors. A movie projector plays movies on a sheet of water that comes out of the ceiling into the pool.”

“This summer house consists of a cave-house inside the volcanic earth and a small exterior house at the upper level. A twisted exterior stairway connects the main pedestrian on the top with both levels ending up to the main yard with the infinity pool.”
_
“Inside the cave-house there are a sitting room with a small kitchen, two en suite bedrooms, a hammam and a sauna. The exterior yard of the cave-house has been designed as a platform looking the volcano-sea view. An infinity pool, a semi open vaulted space aside (used for dining and lounge exterior facilities) and small sitting corners are the parts of this platform.”

“Limited land and plenty space requirements are one of the challenges in designing this house. Split level concept is applied to this house in order to accommodate the needs of the house owner. The requirement of this project is creating something unique for the owner, who is passionate about gardening and modern technology. Therefore there is a garden on every level of the house.”

Changsha Meixihu International Culture and Art Centre Designed by _
The new Culture & Arts Centre by Zaha Hadid Architects incorporates a contemporary art museum (MICA), a 1,800-seat theatre with supporting facilities and a multipurpose hall. Its organic architectural language is defined by pedestrian routes that weave through the site to connect with neighbouring streets. Providing views of the adjacent Meixi Lake from the city and giving access to the parks and walking trails on the lake’s Festival Island, this ensemble of three separate cultural institutions creates external courtyards where pedestrian routes intersect for outdoor events and sculpture exhibitions.
_
Designed for the widest variety of performing arts, the Grand Theatre provides all front-of-house functions in sculpted lobbies, bars, and hospitality suites, as well as the necessary ancillary functions including administration offices, rehearsal studios, backstage logistics, wardrobe, and dressing rooms. With eight juxtaposed exhibition galleries totaling 10,000 sq.m centered around an atrium for large-scale installations and events, the MICA art museum also includes dedicated spaces for community workshops, a lecture theatre, café, and museum shop.

The Naked House by

The challenge begins with the dimensions of the plot, an urban residue resulting from the subdivision of a family home, the area of 6.5 m x 27.5 m with a west facade was not the most encouraging for the needs of a house.
_
The solution solved problems of sun exposure to the west and the difficulty of cross ventilation in all spaces, creating a barrier with services to the west and separating the house from the northern boundary leaving only 80 cms that allow an "air chimney", which works successfully.
_
The elements of passive conditioning become an integral part of the design, the pool that cools the air before traversing the house, the glass wall to the east that lets you open or close the space and control the flow and volume of air, sliding glass doors to the air chimney that create natural light from the north and increased ventilation, a green wall to the west reinforcing the thermal barrier, permaculture planters that always kept with water avoid overheating the access area and intermediate courtyards as the transition from access to living area and to the inner courtyard of the bedroom.

The River House by

“The continuation of Bali’s beautiful landscape into the Inside of the building is one of our key credos in architectural design-for the river house we embedded the existing topography and used it as the over-arching feature for a three-dimensional experience. Different passages, walkways, and spaces lead through the house. We used reclaimed timber and locally sourced sandstone to create surfaces and textures that evoke a sense of timelessness, firmness, and reference back to Bali’s vernacular building culture.”
