Tomorrow! The 2nd Annual “Pass the Mic: We Will Tell Our Stories” 🎙 will screen three short films by local filmmakers and artists Ronald Baez (@wegfilms), Diana Larrea (@parcialmentenublada ), and Terence Price II (@mxlawkii )
The filmmakers worked with @wecount_fl , @allapattahcdc , @miamiworkerscenter and community experts to tell the stories of issues facing Miamians and how they are fighting injustices and seeking solutions. The topics include wage theft of undocumented workers, the fight for a tenants’ bill of rights, and surviving as a small business in a gentrifying neighborhood.
After the screening, stick around for a post-film discussion moderated by Community Justice Project’s Director of Community Research and Storytelling Nadege Green (@nadegegreen ).

“The song is about wanting to escape, wanting to be at the beach. So with the video we tried to show that feeling of daydreaming. We wanted the whole trip to the beach to have a surreal aspect, and we thought that the backwards play achieved that effect. It’s inspired by Drop by The Pharcyde. Shot in a coast town called Anare, in the state of La Guaira, Venezuela. The state is known for the many beaches, but most people only known the main ones, so we looked for a town with a beach that isnt so well known to show other beautiful beaches”

The story follows a young Haitian-American who learns how to dance Konpa to impress his crush.
The film is now headed into post-production and we can’t wait to see the final cut. The colors alone are stunning.

KONPA is part of the WEG Short Film Lab commissioned by @wegfilms and @asfifilms. As part of the commission, Al’lkens has also completed a free-to-attend public program for the community.
