More than a century ago the New World’s first successful slave insurrection occurred here, upon this fortress, amid these hills. I imagine this view giving those brave few respite while desperate, a vision of what can be - however fleeting. Yet, they caught hold of it somehow and never let go.

In my with BRISCO we discussed that pivotal chapter in and larger America’s history when hurricane Katrina displaced many residents leading to birdman and Cash Money Records’s move to which was indeed transformative leading to Brisco and the DunkRyders collective being signed to the iconic label which undoubtedly is the most successful record label in hip hop history. I thank Baby for the gems he shared with me including being the first person to tell me to turn into an audiobook. However, like any great saga, this chapter in pop cultural history isn’t void of controversy as New Orleans and Miami share a very unique relationship given both cities connection to Haiti.

I really enjoy writing and directing, but narrating is something I savor so this review by is special for me.

I remember growing up void of social media and not having to be influenced by outside thoughts and traumas which set the tone for me to think independently yet yearn to make a real connection with others and not some form of personal branding which what most online communication has become. However, social media also now enables me to share this and find a community beyond my geographic sphere - so much like a knife can take life or protect it - we can’t blame the tool, but our own human nature for any injury to our humanity social media inflicts. It also gives the next generation an outlet we never had.

Having said this, I launched understanding the new form of communication would be digital and then brought the show back home to the to our youth, then and , because I wanted to build a bridge to the future. Many of these former junior and high school students in these pictures and videos often reach out to me to thank me for the gems we shared at . I cringe when they call me Mr. Bailey, but it’s my favorite part of this work and the best feeling you’ll ever have, because in this life it matters more what you give than take. 🗣️🇻🇮🇯🇲🇺🇸

Join me and cast members from our award-winning docu-series at on Feb. 12th for a very special art exhibit, film screening and community dialogue as we engage civic leaders, educators and students on ’s drug underworld and it’s influence on society. Having debuted as one of the top ten films on and continued stellar ratings, the series takes an uncompromising approach to telling this chapter in American history, one the calls “more than an urban story”. As the director and narrator I wanted to challenge viewers to see beyond “villian” or “hero”, but more so what’s at the center of Kingpins and life as a whole - survival. I thank Barry, the Miami-Dade , & for hosting this very transformative event and we hope to see you there.
