Jim Carrey wrote a check for $10 million... when he didn’t even have food.

It was 1987. Jim Carrey lived in a van with his family. He worked in bars and clubs doing stand-ups, but nothing took off. One night, he climbed the hill on Mulholland Drive, looked out toward Los Angeles, and a promise was made:
“I am going to succeed. I’m going to charge $10 million for a movie. ”

And he wrote it down. Literally. He took his checkbook, and made a symbolic check for that amount, dated five years into the future. He kept it in his wallet. Every time things went wrong, I watched it.

Five years later, in 1994, he was paid exactly $10 million for Dumb and Dumber. The check still holds it, worn out, as a reminder.

Sometimes, believing in yourself is the first step for the world to do the same.
