So, apparently, this is what I would’ve looked like as a toddler if AI had been around in the ’70s.

Not bad.
Definitely taking things too serious. Nothing's changed!

Fall 2019. took this photo and didn’t think much of it at the time. I lost track of them for a while, but found them as I was digging through some old hard drives—just another long day on set. But looking back, I see everything I was carrying. I see everything I was carrying.

This was the most challenging job I’ve ever done, partly because I wasn't doing it for another production company. I was doing it for myself and all the responsibilities laid at my feet. I was hired as the U.S. service production company for a French team shooting a project for Netflix. The logistics were a bit nutty, and the hours were brutal.

What you can’t see in this photo is me questioning my voice and how often I had to fight myself. The second leg of the job ended a week before the lockdown. During the pandemic, I realized I had to go through that to get to where I am now.

In this clip, —2D/3D animator and VFX artist—talks about what actually happens when you bring AI into the creative process.

Yeah, it can be faster. It can even be a bit cheaper. But there’s still real work involved—especially when it comes to fixing what AI gets wrong.

You still need time to clean it up. That’s gotta be part of the conversation.

“Nine weeks away, and the AI was already speaking a new language.”

In this ReFramed convo, Arckazian and I discuss how fast AI filmmaking tools are evolving—and how stepping away, even briefly, can mean relearning everything. From image generation to concept framing, it’s a whole new game.

For this installment of Creating in the midst of COVID, I speak with commercial director, Joseph Silva. We talked about his experience during the pandemic, how pivoting from his office to a home studio in the middle of a project, taught him some important lessons.
