Before previewing this powerful 16-track body of work, Buju held a reasoning with the intimiate gathering, sharing his views on the current state of Jamaican music, and his plans to solidify the foundation of the original dancehall and sound system culture that first brought Buju—and so many other talents—to the world.

Jah Jah 🙏💔🕊️ RIP Sly Dunbar 🥁👑 Nicknamed “the Octopus” by his longtime sparring partner, the late great Robbie Shakespeare, Sly’s unique styles of drumming touched the entire world 🌍 (as Ini Kamoze sang on the Sly & Robbie production “Worl A Music”) 🌎From Black Uhuru, the first reggae band to win a Grammy, to world tours with Peter Tosh, and countless sessions for every important producer (whether established or up and coming) and artist in Jamaica as well as international stars like Grace Jones, Bob Dylan, and No Doubt, the dynamic duo of Sly”Drum”Bar & Robbie”Bass”Speare rank as one of the greatest rhythm sections of all time in *any* genre of music. As a producer, Sly’s Taxi label changed the sound of modern music over and over again from “Taxi” to “Murder She Wrote” and beyond.

Along with his musical bredrens in the great Stephen “Cat” Coore blessed the world with an abundance of timeless tunes. The last time I saw him perform on the 2023 we took time to speak about the powerful story behind one of the legendary band’s classics, “1865”—better known as “96 Degrees in the Shade.” As the late great Bunny Rugs sang on that timeless tune: “the truth is I’ll never die.” Still in state of shock to hear of Cat’s passing. The master guitarist, cellist, and songwriter was one of the coolest living legends one could ever meet. Condolences to his family and loved ones worldwide. Music alone shall live.
