REMINDER: For Family's Sake, the film
Casting: Friday June 28th, 2013 by appointment only.
SAG Short Thesis 15 minute Film. Will audition
non- union and SAG actors.
3 day shoot week during week of August 12 –
August 18
Sides and / or monologue at audition.
Talent: IMDb credit, food, copy, film festival submissions, pay plus 10% agent fee if applicable. All characters paid. Rate depends on character and total shoot days. Rehearsal included.

CHARACTERS: Family Arabic descent
1. Sama: 17 years old girl (range 16-20). Principal. 3 days. Dark hair, brown eyes, olive skin. Arab features. Tidy, attractive. Wears hijab in public. Junior in high school. Father died last year from brain tumor. Sheltered childhood and conservative. In secret, loves to read books like Harry Potter and Hunger Games. Loves to write. In love with Michael. Has an obsessive-compulsive disorder (about cleaning) and is ambivert (wants to be social but traditions constrain her). She cannot speak Arabic but memorized Quran. Will audition Hispanic (no accent).
2. Rami: 15 year old boy (Sama’s brother). Age range 15-20. Principal. Dark hair, dark eyes. Untidy. Middle class family. Very conservative. Popular in school. Hopes to be a doctor. Hides anger from having to defend his religion. An extrovert. Freshman in high school. 3 days.
3. Miriam: mid to late 40s. Speak Arabic. Or Latin with no accent. Cannot be Pakistanian or Indian. Iranian / Turkish. Principal. 2 days. Dark hair, dark eyes. Widow. Looks older than she is. Was once very beautiful. Tidy and neat looking. Naïve due to sheltered childhood. Married at age 16. Lives in fear. Will pay travel if from out of Florida.
4. Noor: 12 year old sister (age range 10-14). Can be a boy instead. Supporting. 2 day shoot.
5. Patrick: Caucasian or Hispanic. Age range 18-23. In love with Sama. Motivated, responsible. Attends school and works. Principal. 2 days.
6. Mona : Arabic descent but doesn’t have to speak Arabic. Mid 30s – mid 40s. Supporting. 1 day shoot.
7. Ahmed: Mona’s husband. Late 40s / 50s. Supporting. 1 day shoot.

Synopsis:
Sama is an Arab-American high school student who is in love with Patrick, an all-American boy. Born to a traditional Muslim family, Sama discovers that she is to be engaged to a 32-year-old Muslim man, a marriage her recently widowed mother had planned very carefully to ease their financial situation.
Sama hides her intimate relationship with Patrick from her family, especially her ultra-conservative brother, Rami, who is considered the head of the family after the death of their father.
Sama and Patrick runaway, but her mother and Rami find out.
Will Sama escape the arranged marriage or will she become another victim of religious and cultural beliefs that are rooted in thousands of years of tradition?
