I love looking for sheds late winter/ early spring.

Here is both sides I found off of a buck I hunted for 3 years but never got an opportunity to take.

This set is from 2020 and I found them laying side by side in a honey locust thicket.

During late season when food is scarce, deer will devour honey locust pods if available. Making thickets of Honey Locust trees an awesome place to pick up sheds.

What you got, let’s see your best sets.

Well I the storms Saturday night took out my meat pole. The best I can remember it has stood for about 30 years.
We moved in our home in February of 1995 and I erected it that fall.
I can’t tell you how many “first” bucks hung there over the years, taken by family and friends.
When we had our big lease there were many, many opening days that we had 5 deer hanging there and more waiting to be hung. With an assembly line of excited worn out hunters working together to process our bounty.
I can’t remember all the excited accounts of hunts gone by told underneath that ole meat pole, but there are some I will never forget.
And who knows how many poses for pictures that were taken there of trophy’s now hanging on living room walls.

Thank you Father God for making me a hunter!!!

I love using all the Dead Down products!

My brother and I make it a point to take our Dad out each year during the Oklahoma rifle season. He can’t get around very well any longer but he can still put them in the 10 ring that’s for sure. He still uses the only deer rifle he has ever owned. He bought it the year I was born which is 1969. It’s a Marlin lever action 30 30. We were covered up that morning and he ended up taking that nice buck and a very nice doe. My brother and I are blessed beyond measure to still be able to share the blind with him.

The Wind Detector by Dead Down Wind is one product we cannot hunt without. I keep one in each back pack, and extra bottles in each of my blinds. A guy may think he knows which way the wind or thermals are taking your scent, but why guess when you can use the wind detector and know!

How many of you self film your hunts?

If you do, let’s see your set-up.

Here is a list of my go to video gear.

Main camera is a Panasonic HC X 1500 4K camcorder paired with DJI wireless mics.

For my second view I use a GoPro 9.

I also use Fourth Arrow tripods and camera arms.

New for the upcoming season I have added a DJI Action cam 5. It’s supposed to add more available time for filming during low light by 5- 10 minutes which is huge.

Whatcha got?

Here’s a dandy buck that just showed up at the tail end of the 23/24 season. He was very recognizable as he had very short brow tines and his main beams swooped up at the ends.

Once he visited the farm he became very photogenic and we began getting regular pictures of him. During the 24/25 season be threw on an extra point on his left side. Going from an 8 to a 9 point, also putting on a lot more mass and tine length.

During the 25/26 season he lost the 9th point and actually didn’t look nearly as impressive as the previous season, even though he was still a really nice buck. But he visited the farm much less, and fell completely off the radar with no pictures after October 29th 2025.

Did he get harvested by one of the neighbors? Not sure, but I wouldn’t blame them if they did.

Stay tuned, the cameras are out and running all year.
