Happy 66th Birthday to Michael James Hucknall (born 8 June 1960) 🎉🎶

An iconic English singer and songwriter, Michael Hucknall rose to global fame in the 1980s as the powerful lead vocalist and songwriter of the legendary soul-pop band Simply Red. Over his remarkable 25-year career with the group, he helped sell more than 50 million albums worldwide, cementing their place in music history.

Known for his unmistakable voice and emotional delivery, Hucknall has been praised by Australian Rhythms Magazine as “one of the truly great blue-eyed soul singers,” while Q Magazine credited him with “the most prodigious voice this side of Motown.” 🎤✨

Before Simply Red, he began his journey in the late 1970s with the band Frantic Elevators, releasing four singles, including the original version of “Holding Back the Years,” which later became a global hit with Simply Red.

As the frontman of Simply Red, he became the defining face of the band, instantly recognizable with his signature long curly red hair featured across albums and music videos.

In 1997, he received an Outstanding Achievement Award at the MOBO Awards, a rare honor that highlighted his influence across genres.

Beyond music, Hucknall married Gabriella Wesberry in 2010 in Scotland, and they welcomed their daughter Romy True Hucknall in 2007.
