LOS ANGELES — A new chapter in contemporary art is unfolding in the heart of Los Angeles. DATALAND, founded by media artist Refik Anadol and cultural strategist Efsun Erkılıç, will debut as the first museum entirely conceived through artificial intelligence. The institution promises to merge cutting-edge generative systems with sensory design, offering visitors experiences that evolve in real time.
The centerpiece of the opening is the Infinity Room, an installation that integrates AI-generated scents and advanced generative models to simulate physics and spatial properties with unprecedented fidelity. Visitors will encounter environments that respond dynamically to their presence, blurring the line between digital and physical reality.
The inaugural exhibition, Machine Dreams: Rainforest, is powered by the Large Nature Model, an AI system trained on more than 500 million rainforest images. Developed in collaboration with institutions such as the Natural History Museum of London, the Smithsonian, and the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, the model transforms ecological data into evolving visual and sensory landscapes.
Adding to its cultural impact, DATALAND will launch an Artist Residency in partnership with Google Arts & Culture. The program will support visionary creators exploring how artificial intelligence can reshape storytelling, design, and cultural production.
