I am Abi-Gaye 'Abz' Smythe and I am raising funds to purchase a new Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator (ICD) for my heart. I am living with a rare and progressive heart disease; Arrhythmogenic Right Ventricular Dysplasia, the same disease that claimed my mother's life. My ICD helps keep me alive by preventing sudden cardiac arrest which can be fatal.
My current device is nearing the end of its battery life and must be replaced by the end of 2026. Unfortunately, the cost of a new ICD and the associated medical procedure is far beyond what I can afford at this time. The device alone costs approximately USD $20,000.
I currently cover all my regular medical expenses out of pocket, including tests, specialist visits, cardiac checks, physiotherapy, and my monthly medications. I also manage several other medical conditions: Severe Restrictive Lung Disease, Scoliosis, Cluster Headaches, nerve damage in my neck, Patellofemoral Osteoarthritis in both knees. Without health insurance, these costs add up quickly, making it extremely difficult to save toward the ICD replacement that I now urgently need.
Your donation, no matter how small, will directly support my ability to receive lifesaving care. It will help cover the cost of the device, surgery, and aftercare.
If you have been touched by my journey, my advocacy work, or simply feel moved to help, I would be deeply grateful for your support. Please share this campaign with others who may be willing to assist. See Fundraising Link Here ⬇️
