Lol, thought this was this group, then got irritated at the comments automatically shut off so soon... but anyways, its a prime example of stress risers and esthetics vs assthetics. Clearly, the bottom point of the star is less than an inch from the "frame rail"/fl**ge of the gusset. Some may be rated at 3/4" and the HOLE must be bolted or riveted to prevent said stress riser (or other method, like a suspension pivot tube). But generally, you dont want any sort of stress riser going to the fl**ge. Its weaker than having no filler plate and running just a strap where the gusset would be. The other side of the star was far enough away, but not "terminated" by putting a round hole there, instead of the sharp point. This could be done, keeping the clean point, by drilling a hole where it would Crack out to, and installing a rivet or bolt. Just a little something to think about when fabricating or modifying your trailers. I think this was a noob mistake on a big name brand commercial trailer, so take that perspective for what you want.
