Florida Attorney General James Uthmeier announced a lawsuit against Netflix in Miami on Wednesday morning, saying the tech giant is monitoring children's activity on the platform and profiting from it. The state is now seeking billions in damages. Uthmeier said when parents pay the monthly subscription for Netflix, they believe they are escaping advertisements and Big Tech surveillance, but he said Netflix has turned into a data machine. Amanda Altman, CEO of Christy's House, a children's advocacy center, joined Uthmeier at the press conference and said she sees the consequences of the harm big tech causes children every day, including children exposed to sexual or violent content and children bullied online.

Uthmeier said parents complaining prompted his office to look into Netflix, and he accused the company of violating promises it made about monitoring and advertising. In addition to money, the complaint is seeking to have Netflix get rid of all the data it collected from Floridians and stop using addictive features on the platform. CBS News Miami reached out to Netflix for comment, and a spokesperson said the company would defend itself, saying Netflix takes members' privacy seriously, complies with privacy and data-protection laws and has safeguards in place for kids. The spokesperson called the lawsuit without merit and said the company intends to vigorously defend the matter in court.

A woman was airlifted to the hospital after being attacked by a family dog in southwest Miami-Dade on Wednesday afternoon, according to the Miami-Dade Sheriff's Office. Deputies responded to the area of Southwest 285th Street and 143rd Court around 1:43 p.m. after receiving a report of a dog attack. When they arrived, MDSO said they found an adult woman with bite wounds to her upper and lower extremities. Miami-Dade Fire Rescue transported her by air to Jackson South Medical Center, where she was listed in stable condition. Miami-Dade County Animal Services was also called to respond to the scene.

CBS News Miami spoke with an individual inside the home who confirmed the victim is expected to recover, though the person declined to provide further details or speak on camera. A Miami-Dade Animal Services spokeswoman said the agency is gathering information regarding the case. No additional information has been released, including how the dog attack happened and the identity of the victim.
