Adding a split shot changes everything. Your fly takes about 5 feet of drift for it to be deep. In faster deep holes, you need to add a split shot to sink it quicker. Quicker in sinks, the longer your fly is in the strike zone.

If you observe trout on a sunny day, you will notice they are always hiding in some sort of shade. It could be behind a rock, or log, or in the tree line. Trout do not have eyelids, so they dont like sun. On sunny days, hyperfocus on shaded areas.
